Naomi Campbell's blood diamonds

Now I know I shouldn't really expect anything more from someone like Naomi Campbell, but has anyone else found the fact that she made comments in open court about how "incovenient" it was for her to attend the Hague pretty distasteful?

I wonder if the many thousands of people who were killed or had limbs hacked off by rebels funded by blood diamonds like the ones she received, found their plights to be equally as inconvenient?

I've not read much about it, but on the surface, it does seem like she's been made an example of. She was most likely really nieve to to whole gift.

This isn't the first time her character has been called into question, she has been in the press before for being a nasty piece of work! I'd suspect she knew, she isn't that naive..

Throw her diamond mine i say and let the people who have sufferd getting them stones, have five min's with her :D

Good suggestion.

She also said when asked what time she had a knock on the door when she was given the diamonds and her response was "I've no idea, I was asleep." Surely you could make a guess as to what time it was, you sort of know what time it is when you wake up in the night, whether you've just fallen asleep or whether you've been asleep for a while.

She seems reluctant to help with the investigation.

Also if some random guys gave me a pouch in the middle of the night I'd have had a peek before going back to sleep and not just forgot about it until the next day.

I'll have to have a proper read I quess.

I wonder how many people on here would turn down a bag of diamonds if they had them in their hands.

I wouldn't but she is a horrible person, she's been in trouble for fighting a few times and causing trouble I believe.

There's nothing naive at all about the woman, ask Flavio..... Personally I thought he had pretty cool taste in glamorous women until he took that one on board, and boy did she try to rake him over. Personality aside, she looks more savage than supermodel to me. Doesn't surprise me at all, nor does Mandella's lot being involved.

From what I have heard they were in raw form.... looked like dity pebbles. You would need to take them to a jeweller and I expect the ones she uses would know immediatley where they were from and would report them. My point is that unless you have an illegal outlet to sell them then they are worthless.

I don't have a high opinion of her either (I'm sure it's mutual!) Like others have said, IMO she's a nasty piece of work.

The impression I get from the media (which themselves can't readily be trusted) is that her evidence doesn't stack up. She's either dim, devious or both.

I'll watch out for further evidence with interest!

If she feels like she's being 'inconvenienced' by appearing at the Hague, then she could be 'involved' in anything, as that kind of attitude stinks of contempt and arrogance, IMO.

Now now. Be fair. It's probably a lot more inconvenient for her than it is for all the people murdered, raped and mutilated by Taylor's cronies.

"We executed everybody – babies, women, old men. There were so many executions. I can't remember them all."

To be even fairer, this (the massacres etc) was a non-story for the mainstream media until they had a celebrity to attach to it.

Clearly, then, the message from The Hague today is simple: you can kill and rape and mutilate as much as you like, but if you really want to gain a purchase on early 21st-century western discourse and are not simply pissing about, you do need to have once had contact with a celebrity in some incredibly minor way.
