sauron
Just managed to get my old steering wheel off despite smacking my head against the ceiling..Got myself an ELEVO snap off boss kit which i have been advised is the exact one for my model Supra.Trouble is there is no hole for the connector block for horn to fit through.Seen a thread where one member reckons removing this block but his membership has expired so looking for advice on what to do next? JODY T
ur supposed to leave the bolt on, just undo a few turns, and hit both sides of the wheel one after the other very quickly and itll just pop off the splines.. Hew presto no damage to your face, the ceiling or anything else lol As for the boss kit ide say its the wrong one, can you not just extend the wire? the connector block should be behind the boss anyway, it doesnt need to go through it does it.. Leave the block in place, thread the horn wire through the boss so you can connect to the horn?
sauron
Did that but obviously didnt leave enough turns of the bolt.Ouch!! Seems like its the wrong one like you say.have added some pics perhaps you can work it out as i am totally confuzzled??
sauron
Help still needed please. The boss wont fit flush as the connector block is in the way. Also still trying to work out where the single wire from the connector block is supposed to attach??Instructions for installation that came with boss are very vague
Guest victorvondoom
Sauron: It looks like the boss you got has got the "Toyota" pattern fitment but not for the Supra. Think you need the cut-out for the connector for it to fit. I have been trying to get a boss kit for my facelift Supra for nearly a year without much luck! I did get one off fleabay (yeah, I know...) which I was told would fit (even had pics of a facelift fitted with one) but it turned out with the same fit pattern as yours - deffo not right. Sorry to tell you this dude...........
sauron
Contacted seller who informed me that he fitted these to Supras in the past and i should move the connector block. Can this be done?
Guest victorvondoom
Don't think you should even try doing that - you might do some permanent damage to your car. I'd ask for a refund if I were you.
sauron
Excuse my ignorance but what excatly does the black lead from the connector block do.Is it just an earth?

Guest victorvondoom
Sorry Dude, only just got to look back at this thread. If there's only 1 wire, I would imagine that it's the live feed for the horn. Would it be possible to machine a rectangular part off the base of the boss so that the connector block passes through it? you could take a cardboard template of the base of your steering wheel (the OE one), place it on your boss and mark up the location of the cut out. This way, if it still doesn't work then you've only damages the boss and not the car. I'm also assuming you don't have an airbag.
sauron
Have been thinking of doing this just worried about the strucural integrity of the boss kit after it is done. The car doesnt have an airbag.
nevins
send it back mate and get a proper one, Anything too do with the steering, if it does not fit without mods don't, use it, its not safe to mess with these components. Boss's should fit straight on with no fuss.
rassu69
I am talking sauron though fitting this kit right now and have made progress, i bought a standard boss kit of the same seller last week and fitted it very easily with no major mods.hopefully we can get the snap off one to fit in the same way. The part of this boss kit that gets in the way is just a plastic horn contact disc that is not required, because the car has one fitted already(the block thats in the way) you just need to pull the bosses contact disc off. I have seen posts of other boss kits that needed to be drilled and cut etc, but i assure you this isnt nessesary with this kit. Sauron is giving it a go now, will let you know the outcome
rassu69
I also forgot to mention that both mine and saurons cars are pre facelift non-airbag models with no cruise control as this could cause different fitment problems
rassu69
Sauron has just informed me that his boss kit is now properly fitted. so it is confirmed that the boss will fit.
rassu69
i have taken a photo of the part that needs to be removed for the benefit of others. and here is a link to these items on ebay. as far as im aware this only works with kits made by ELEVO. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290450548944&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toyota-Celica-Snap-Off-Hub-Boss-Kit_W0QQitemZ290374628895QQihZ019QQcategoryZ40195QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
jackso11
most places you by a boss from say its the right one for....and then has a long list of toyota cars including the MKIV Supra, but if you read the tiny print at the bottom it usually say requires modification for certain vehicles of which the Supra is one. You need to cut the boss to make it fit, or you need to spend a lot more money and by an expensive one from Whifbitz that will fit straight on. Edit - Ignore me as the last 4 posts seem to mean this specific boss doesn't need to be cut. So, £18 for a boss that fits! bargain!
