Car not starting when low fuel.

Recently I acquired my Grans honda Civic, it's a 2000 plate but with only 13000 miles on it. It was used regularly by her, once a week or so, but for very short distances. It's been serviced every year, so had a service every 1100 miles or similar. When the tank is running low it really struggles to start, obviously the solution to this is keep it full which I normally do but having gone from London - Glasgow the tank was low and it reminded me of the problem. It eventually starts, any ideas as to the problem?

I have the same car as my daily, why dont you disconnect the fuel pipe at the engine side and place it into a coke bottle - see if you are getting enough fuel.

If you do that under both the "full tank" and "empty tank" scenarios and there is a differerence, id try replacing the fuel pump.

Id try replacing the fuel filter anyway.

Ps; im not a mechanic :)

Fuel pump is struggling to suck fuel in, it is known fault in Audi's (so might be similiar in Hondas) - leads to packed pump, i've seen it quite a few times in cars which are running constantly on fuel reserve.

Hope this is all the problem is, car is rarely low on fuel so hopefully not be a major problem.
