Nokia N8 Will It Rival the Iphone???

It certainly has the hardware potential. It has all those things that I felt were missing from the iPhone 4.

It's about time Nokia got back in the game. I've not had one since the 6100.

thats what im thinking Matt, Nokia has been forgotten about, all the hype was around the iphone, HTC so nokia has been left along to work there magic, i suppose when its released we can see if its crap or good? :D

I sense fail, camera looks good. The OS looks a bit clunky to me in the videos and the games very jittery and the graphics pretty crap lol, atleast in the promo video.

They are always 1 step behind the leaders, they will have to do something special to get the market to shift back. The N8 doesnt even look sexy, it looks dull.....

It's like somone's mated my Iphone with my old Satio, added a bit of evolution in and out popped the N8.

One thing that works about the iPhone, even though the Hardware in the 4 is really dissappointing, is it's so user friendly (bar f*&cking iTunes that is). Will the N8 be as good in that department? We'll have to wait and see, but on paper, that is a very tasty phone.

Nokia hasn't been forgotten about, they have just lost their way - Symbian is a poor platform for nerd phones.

They should concentrate on the hardware side of things and go with Android IMO, it would be a great combo.

Agree with Michael - the evolution that Android has taken from R1.5 through to the current R2.2 is pretty dramatic. If Nokia can provide a good, rooted rom on their N8, then they're right back in the game.

Nokia was always let down by three things - Symbian, Bluetooth car kit compatability and price.

I don't get all excited about 'app' stores. However many thosand apps the iTunes store has, I still only have a handful of useful ones. Probably the same collection (give or take a few), that everyone else has on their phones.

I usually log onto the app store every few days and find nothing new of interest. Quality not quantity. The reduced number of apps available for the Nokia won't be a contract breaker for me.

Agreed - but people want "apps" these days, and average joe doesn't understand quality, only large numbers.

You know those "handful of useful ones" you have now? They won't be available in Ovi.

If you want a basic offering that works out of the box and does what you need then the N8 might be a decent option, if you want a phone that you can adjust to meet other needs then I suspect Symbian will prevent this.

I presume for the fundemental ones there will be an equivelent, or I'll just have to result in doing in the old fashion way and use the brower and bookmark stuff. Like I said, it's not a deal breaker.

N900 uses Ovi store aswell as a whole load of other open source ones so pretty much most of the apps are "useful ones"

If there's one that you want there are actually forums you can post on to request and someone, somewhere will most likely write the app for you! Now I love Apple products, so will probably end up going back to an iPhone but.... the good thing about Maemo 5 is that it's open source so you can do a lot more with it :)

The demo video on the orginal link looks like a rip off of the way the HTC home screen works. The problem with copying a rival is the individuality is gone.

I doubt the Nokia will have anything over the HTC/Iphone, other than shiney trinkets.

Cue Geo & Harry :D
