Sam Handwich
Was cruising along the M11 today, popped her 5th put my foot down a tiny bit, hit 8000 revs and then..... POP! Now she wont start. The ignition works but she wont catch. Ive checked everything! Been under the bonnet now for 7 hours straight, the worst thing is the engine warning light is not coming on so she cant tell me whats wrong with her. Anyone who has any idea please please let me know Elliott
Purity14
Crank Pulley failure? Cambelt skipped teeth? Are you getting fuel, Spark? Give us some more info
Ian C
What does "pop" mean? You've missed a big bit out between "pop" and being at home from cruising on the M11. Did the engine cut out and you had to get recovered home, or did it run just fine until you got home, stopped it, and tried to restart it? Also, when you say you checked "everything" you probably haven't So list what you have checked, for all I know you've done everything I'm about to suggest so that's mine and your time wasted hah If the engine internals were damaged badly enough to stop it from starting, you should know from the noise. So we'll assume the engine is mechanically sound still. Best place to start from there is the question of "fuel or spark". Test 1 - run up the fuel system by bridging +B and FP in the diagnostic port and then turning the ignition to position 2. You'll hear surprisingly loud rushing if the fuel pump is still working (you will need to de-immobilise the car as well). Test 2 - Pop out the coil packs and plugs and turn it over with them connected and near the engine block/head/something conductive. See if they spark. That shows if you've got a spark Test 3 - Compression check. You'll need a test gauge for this but Wilco's etc sell them for a tenner or so. Follow the instructions that come with it, and see if you've snapped your cambelt - that'd make it turn over but not start, no problem. -Ian
dr_jekyll
how did ity get to 8k is what i want to know, do you have a built engine ?
Dnk
To check the cam belt wouldnt it be easier to just take the top cover off ?
Tricky-Ricky
how did ity get to 8k is what i want to know, do you have a built engine ? That was my first thought, also if cruising in fourth and put it into filth suggests its an N/A, although the bit about a "POP" makes me think a boost hose has come off, unless of course it was i BIG pop? i presume there are no large oil leaks? As said way to little information to give any real help.
Dnk
If its the car in his garage its a single turbo converted from a tt import

Sam Handwich
Yes it is a fully built engine. My first thought was a the Turbo hose had blown off (made that sort of pop) Yes i did have to get my car recovered, its now in east London (anyone know any specialists around here?) Fuels delivery is good, cam belts good, still need to check the plugs Yesterday i also discovered that theres no electric going to the ECU when i try to turn it over (checked every fuse). I am completely baffled, il check the sparks this afternoon and if its not them thats my compacity of car fixing finished
Scott
How did you check the fuses bud? If you went end to end and checked the voltage it won't read if the fuse isn't broken.
Sam Handwich
All fuses checked

keron
hmmm, where exactly am i looking for this? going to the garage in about an hour, once ive finished some work standing at the front of the car, fuse box on the right side near battery, the mai fuse is located on the far left hand side...should have 120 amp on the clear glass on the top... there are a few bigger fuses there too. has the car got power inside? lights, windows, stereo etc etc??? maybe the ignitor pack may have gone too? Scott
All fuses checked How are you checking the fuses, and how did you check the voltage across the fuses to come to the conclusion that there was no voltage going to/from the ECU?

Terminator
Just looked in your garage at the car, you have not had it long. Sorry to read of your predicament. What info do you have on the engine build and what was the source of the information? What make of ECU do you have? The ECU may have i'ts own fuse located in somewhere in its 12V feed if thats blown you won't start it.

Tricky-Ricky
First off you mention that the ECU has no power so this would prevent the fuel pump working, the igniter and injectors, so you need to check its power supply/fuses before testing the rest.
