Guest Johnnynhl
My Aircon has not worked for a number of years. recently I took it to get it charged but the garage but unfortunately according to the gargage the condensor and several other bits (as they whistled through their teeth) were required totalling £500 plus in parts and labour. Has anyone modded the car and removed the compressor?. Lets face it I live in Scotland and have no intention of sellin my beast, in fact I may just get buried in it, so why bother spinning the compressor. Anybody got a fix? Wez
You can remove it, all you need is a smaller belt.

Guest Johnnynhl
Great thread do you have the part number for the belt?
pedrosixfour
6PK1840 in a good make from your local motor factor will work buddy. If you decide otherwise I have a compressor here you can have at a good price.

JustGav
6PK1840 in a good make from your local motor factor will work buddy. We used a PK1863 belt and that worked.
pedrosixfour
We used a PK1863 belt and that worked. There are probably several sizes that will do the job nicely. However I'd imagine the bigger the belt the greater the chance there is of it slipping on the pulleys due to a lack of tension.

Hmmm, will have a look, but it is was FT when it went on, with graham grunting doing the tensioner

I'll have to double check, this was on an NA as well.... I remember seeing 1865 as being the usual belt length but we couldn't one so had to go for 1863.... pedrosixfour
Well I double checked the size and it's a Gates Micro V - 6PK1840 The original belt, or at least the one I replaced when I remove the A/C, was 6PK1940. Is there a possibility that the belt could be fitted in a couple of ways without upsetting anything?
