Mine just died last week too. Currently in process of fixing it myself. It's not as hard as you think. I'll let you know by Sunday how I get on.

Have you tried to fix it yourself?

I would get a ps3 except for the fact I have invested heavily in my xbox 360 games catalogue/hd dvd drive add on/wireless usb add on and 3 pads including streetfighter fightpad. Really annoys me

Annoying thing is I hardly use mine, it's in a well ventilated area and all that, still makes no difference. Not giving MS the satisfaction of me buying another console from them. If mine is unrepairable I'll sell up and be done with or get a PS3, but if what martini says is true just not bother anymore.

Wii is too kiddy for me, no offence to wii owners.

Makes no difference if you use it or not. The thermal paste evaporates away over time.

At least MSoft offered a warranty scheme - Sony are ignoring the YLOD.

Yeh my 3do and sega saturns still work fine.

So that's why. Sly.... V. sly mr gates.

And what gets me the most is I don't mind asking MS to fix it if the cost is reasonable but not paying £90 to fix a £100 new console!!!

 errm the one on the xbox is showing 1 red bar on right hand side :)

You should try repairing them. If you don't want to I will :D

As I say let me see how I get on with mine. I am fairly certain I will be able to repair red rings within 1-2 hours max after fixing mine.

So don't bin your xboxes just yet.

If it has RROD'd then you can get it replaced for free from MS. I'm sure you could a blag a brand new Xbox 360 slim if you sound especially irate over the phone :D

I tried that and it didn't work. Think they have drawn the line now.

And I am one of the masters of complaining to companies to get freebies. And to be honest, is it worth getting it replaced for it to break again a few months later?

Yes! Yes it is!

To be honest you've been pretty unlucky. In the 5 years I've had my 360, it has only messed up once. Either you replace it or get the PS3 but having the latter is akin to masturbating in a panic room: its secure but not the most lively of places.

To be honest, I didn't bother arguing beyond the one phone call I made. You are right though if you push hard enough you will generally always win an argument with a company. Its just a question of will power - can you be bothered to ring up and write recorded delivery letters to regulators/office for fair trading/solicitors etc. for potentially weeks to prove a point?

For the sake of a £6 kit on ebay and doing it myself, I let them win this time. And anyway I've already won many free games/free xbox live months and other free stuff from microsoft actually from winning previous complaints - :D

95% of other complaints I make, the companies don't get away so easily as this last one :sly:

My 360 has broken only once, and they repaired it initially. The old xbox they repaired 2-3 times I think.

If I was getting such a rough deal from a companies product, then I'd most likely forget giving them anymore of my money and switch. At least with the PS3 you don't have to pay Microsoft the online subscription fee.

I'd say it was worth trying to get them to repair or replace it either way. You can always sell the new one and get a PS3 should be be inclined.
