NA idle problems

Right guys ive hit a brick wall on this one and i need some ideas!

My car has been running prefectly for the past 6 weeks, its had every service part possbile on it, plugs, leads etc etc but all of a sudden on friday after wiring in my fog lights and TSD its just started to run like absoloute shite. Saying that it did start behaving odly when the battery started to die. It was missfiring on idle so i pulled the plugs etc this morning, cleaned them and put them back in, missfire seems to have gone but the car just refuses to idle. What could possibly go so wrong over night to make the car run so bad?

Ive reset the ecu twice and it still hasnt cured it.

The thing that gets me is everything has been checked and ok but it just will not hold a slow idle without popping and farting. If i blip it to 900-1000rpm it runs fine.

Im stumped on this one

To add, the 2nd flap inside the manifold acted a bit eratic. I brought the revs up a little and it couldnt decide whether to open or shut

My NA used to do this randomly, sometimes it would be fine for weeks and then all of a sudden out of the blue it used to idle like a sick dog. Couldnt get to the bottom of it until one day it actually cut out on me at a set of lights and on this occasion (only this occasion) it stored a fault code which I can't remember but basically when I looked it up it was along the lines of "signal from TPS lost for more than XX seconds".

I checked for continuity between the TPS and the ECU and it was fine so I then cleaned the contacts on the tps and re-sprung the contacts in the plug on the loom and it cured the problem and to date hasnt returned. May be something completely different in your case but just an idea.

It sounds like overfuelling, have you checked the output from the oxygen sensors?

Im suspecting this also. The only thing that hasnt been replaced is these due to the stupid price of them.

I havent checked the output no. What exactly am i looking for though when i check them??

Martin,

Have you tried the dunking them in lemon juice treatment? It won't fix worn out sensors but it may rejuvinate them enough to prove if they are the problem.

Some useful info on here: http://rover800.gaima.co.uk/Rover800/www.pallant.f2s.com/rover/tech/lambda.htm

Martin, just face it your car is f*cked, so sell me your bilstein suspension nice and cheap and then you can afford to fix the car when you figure out whats up with it ;)
