barneybrendan
ive had my sky box for 5 years just rang them to upgrade to sky plus, apparently i have to pay £160 for the box and fitting.politaly told them where to go. feeling a bit left behind want sky plus but not at that price and i have just added sky braodband and phone. If i was to get a second hand plus box would it work.

Ian W
Absolutely. Gf's dad threatened to leave and they visited asap to replace his old box with a shiny new Sky+ HD box f.o.c.
RobD
No, you'd need to run another set of wires from your dish to the box also! Its £160 because they aren't doing the Sky+ box anymore, they are giving you a HD box but not turning the HD on. A mate had a new install in his house 2 or 3 weeks back but i'm pretty sure he didnt pay that! He's a new customer though, they seem to love new customers over existing for some reason! Just phone up and tell them that Virgin are willing to install Virgin Plus and broadband phone etc for less than what they're willing to give you, they'll soon come down in price! EDIT: Beaten to it! aman00123
Yup we we're told the same thing a couple of years ago when we got Sky+ we also told them where to go, threatened to leave and were given a refurbed box for free with free installation.... Imo push for a brand new box not a refurb, should get it really

RobD
Just leave and go to Virgin anyway.....I hate Sky..!! Virgin broadband is alot better than sky, but i prefer the sky HD over the virgin!
ilicos
Virgin are better IMO, but another way around it if the threatening doesn't work, is to leave them and the day after they shut it off get another resident of the property to start a 'NEW' contract. My brother-in-law did this last year and his brother started the new contract and got a free +Box.......Stupid logic but it works
Scott
Can't say I know of any Virgin broadband users to moan, plenty of the Virgin ASDL moaners though... and with good reason. I Love the Virgin HD service, has 3 tuners as opposed to 2 on sky+. Virgin is just catching up on its HD services now too thanks to a new contract. I'd at least threaten to go to virgin, they will collapse.
The Raven
As above. Tell them you are not happy and will leave. I did this loads of times to get free stuff, they even put you though to the cancel people and ask for all your viewing card details. Then they will ask if your sure you want to leave. At which point the will talk to the "manager" who will OK they upgrade. Works everytime
Shane
Barney, Let me open the mail I have on my desk and see if there any offers going. I have around 300 sky accounts in my name at the mo and get bombarded with offers everday. I dont even open the letters now if they look like offers. Otherwise do as suggested and they will normally do a deal if you say you are moving. Update: Well just been going through them all and the free HDbox offer is long over. All the latest letters are pushing broadband and phone deals. As soon as I get one through offering a box deal I will post.
