Lexus V8 Firenza - Which Gearbox?

Hi Guys

Need to ask the experts a question.

I am just beginning shoe horning a 4.0 litres v8 lexus engine into a 1971 Vauxhall Firenza.

I am planning on using a Supra Gearbox, it has been done lots of times before in Aus, NZ and the USA.

I have narrowed it down to one of two gearboxes.

W58 or the R154. All the bits seem to be readily available.

But which do you guys think is the best box? Which Models do they come from??

Hope you can help??

Jason

W58 would be fine in my opinion. Aslong as the 1UZ stays NA then a W58 would take its torque, plus a firenza weighs next to nothing so not to much abuse on the trans. W58's struggle with bpu sup's but then look at what they have to deal with, 400+lb of torque in a 1.5-1.6ton car with big wheels. A stripped firenza with nice 15's on it will be a lot easier on it.

:yeahthat:

Accepted wisdom among Aussie Soarer owners is that the W58 is fine for a stock 1UZ.

R154 for forced induction.

The W58 was used in the N/A Mk3 and Mk4 Supras.

The R154 was used in the Mk3 Supra turbo (and in other turbo cars that you won't find being broken in the UK).

I assume you've found Lextreme and v-eight.com

Awesome guys thank you, that's what i wanted to know! I found the lextreme site, but you have to Pay money to get the answers!! Will do that, when i am a bit further in, i should imagine the wiring and fuel injection is going to be a nightmare!! But at this stage, just needed some basic info!! I will look for the other site.
