Branners
Heading down to Weymouth tomorrow morning, undecided on whether to take the M3/M27 or M3/A303. Worried about the bottle neck at Ringwood if I go the M3/M27 route. Is the A303 any good as a road, any bottlenecks or bits that queue up badly on during the holiday season? Ewen
I'd take the A303 if it were me. Fast road as far as the A350. The A350 to Blandford is a bit of a pain if stuck behind slow drivers, but its a lovely road with great scenery. A35 on from Blandford to Dorchester is fine usually. Theres roadworks approaching Weymouth at the moment, not too bad though and may even be finished by now.
JustGav
Just make sure you stick to the limit on the A303, it is particularly fav spot.... just as you leave the basingstoke area

dangerous brain
Whichever way you go its gonna be busy today. Expect a hell of a lot of queuing no matter which way you go. You won't get too much of a bottleneck at Ringwood but your choice of road from there could cause you waiting time as the whole Wimbourne by-pass clogs up with caravans quickly for over 10 miles. If you know your way around you could go around that section but I'd guess you don't. Talking to the guys that live weymouth way traveling from Salisbury the 303 has a tendency of bottle-necking massively just past countess roundabout near the stones basically and you can get caught in over 5 miles of traffic just there. If you are going to take the 303 I can thoroughly recommend you take the A30 for the section to Salisbury and drop on into Blandford that way as the drive down the A30 is very beautiful, single carriageway but with mile long overtaking stretches which is very good fun, up through Stockbridge which is a nice place to grab some lunch. The road out of Salisbury to Blandford is another fast one with great overtaking potential and stunning views. I think it may also be the easiest road to drop down into Weymouth from as well.
