michael
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-10796718 Do you believe that this is a positive move? I think it's good that people will be able to continue working while they are able to do so but I'm concerned that employers will be forced to find suitable work for people who don't want to retire but are physically unable (or unsuitable) to perform a particular job. There are a lot of very able, active, healthy people over the age of 65 but, as with people under 65 I guess, there are lots that aren't as bright as they used to be or haven't moved on with technology or new ways of doing things. Is this just a reaction to the concerns that a lot of pensions are going to be pants? If you carried on in your current job beyond 65 would you be as efficient as you are now? Will this have a knock-on impact on people at the other end of the ladder being unable to move up because old crazy Jack from the drilling team still likes to play with the toys despite him being half blind and completely mental? ivan
They had to do it really. How else can they justify raising the pension age? Imagine getting the boot at 65 and being unable to support yourself for another 10 years because of Government policy.
jim
I don't think they've given any consideration to the impact it's going to have at the other end of the scale. Fair enough it will bring in more revenue from tax but unless more jobs are created for the school and university leavers to get onto the employment ladder it's going to mean higher unemployment for them leading to loss in tax revenue and benefits paid out, and more people falling into the 'benefits trap' from an early age. Half baked, no great surprise there.
