After about 8months of looking I have purchased a Mk1 VW caddy pickup its going to be along term project.

Plans for the caddy are

Strip down to a bare shell and attend to any rust, dents and any other problems.

Fill and respray to primer stage

Replace and Rebuild every part

Engine maybe a MKII Golf GTI and Gearbox

MkIV Golf discs all round and new suspension lowered.

New interior, carpet and seats.

Respray new VW black.

It's going to be a long term project with no target date for completion.

If you want any Porsche bits for this, there's a 944 local to me', the shell's rotten, but the interior looks like it would be mint with a clean, and it has nice Teledial wheels. He's only after £200 for it.

Ok cheers Im not sure what you can transfer across from them to the caddy so will have to do some digging.

It won't be a direct fit, but you can get pcs adaptors for the wheels, and having some custom seat subframes welded up wouldn't be hard. It be buying this Porsche myself but have no room for it :(

Well after speaking to a couple of people/companies about which direction to go with the engine I have sort of made my mind up.

With help from Devil developments and G-Werks based in the south coast I we are looking at an Audi S3 APY block with a big valve AGU head or a MK R32 lump dropped in.

I'd go with the S3 lump, an R32 in a Caddy will be a right anchor!

It's quite an expensive conversion though, was circa £4.5k when I looked last inc parts

Love the Caddys, theres one round a village near where I work, sort of distressed cream paint and a garage logo on the door but big flourescent wheels, a different colour in each corner. Looks great.

Drop a JZ in it... :D

I thought about a JZ but if it did fit it I thinkk the front end would be like a snow plough:d.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have found a company that can provide all new original vw body panels. I think this is the way to go than send a small fortune trying to make what I have anygood.

Panels wanted

Bonnet

Front panel

Floor pan

Doors

Outer front wing

Outer sills

Tailgate

Bumpers

Rear arches

So basically the whole pickup.

It's just sat in the drive and the moment Alex.

The wifes uncle is a mechanic/body panelist/welder and can do paint spraying.

I wouldn't trust him with the Supra but VW should bexok in his hands. He lives on Littlehampton Road and has a unit in his back garden with a ramp and spray booth.
