how_supra
Rant start I work near Junction 10 of the M4. A crash on the Eastbound M4 this morning, has meant that it has taken people who live no further than 10 miles away, 3 hours to get to work. Reading centre is totally ram packed and at a standstill. Now I hear that westbound, as a result of rubber neckers another accidents has happened. This just sums up the state of the infrastucture of the uk roads. One accident and the roads just can't cope with the volume of traffic Rant end
Elliot
I'd lay the blame on the morons causing the accidents - not paying attention, not indicating, not checking blindspots, tailgating, slamming the brakes on so they can rubberneck, oh yeah - and speeding! MARTIN R
Totally agree, the state of our roads are dire and lets face it, its going to get worse :thumbdown
how_supra
Absolutely, driver education does play an important part in that. I 100% agree with you. But accidents do happen at the end of the day, and our roads just can't cope with it. There are 25 mile tailbacks on the M4 now. That is totally crazy. I'm just glad I am not stuck in the traffic to be honest. But how infuriating is it, when you yourself get stuck in a traffic jam, caused by careless driving, but not helped by the fact that our roads are at maximum capacity and the infrastructure collapses - even in the slightest incident. JustGav
Hmm, guess I'm taking the M3 home today then.... Gav

Kopite
the roads are a state, some of them round here were shocking and the council had to do something because there were potholes literally taking people's bumpers off!! the accidents though are mainly due to careless/wreckless drivin. When i came from the North East to Liverpool last week, i was in the inside lane, ahead of me was a car in my lane approaching a slower car, nothing in the middle lane, and someone goin slightly faster albeit in the overtaking lane. The car in my lane moves into the middle lane to overtake the slower car...without indicating. the car cruising in the overtaking lane (a BMW seriously!!) decides they'll move into the middle lane at the same time....without indicating. Almost go in to the side of each other, both swerve and almost lose control! the stupidest thing i've seen recently was on the M62, i was in the overtaking lane behing a small lorry who was driving parallel with another matching small lorry (same company). the 2 drivers were tryin to have a chat!! they had slowed to 60mph, people were starting to undertake them both in the inside lane, they couldn;t hear each other so they tried moving their lorries closer together. one went to far and hit the other one! the one in the inside lane was knocked on to 2 wheels, driver corrected and got it back on the road again but twatted the other lorry, both lost their wing mirrors, one of which came close to bangin my supra. then it was a case of knockin it into 4th and gettin the fook out of there via undertakin! Blumin heck. The other day driving back from Silverstone, I had two people almost drive into me by not checking their mirrors or indicating. It is totally crazy Did anyone watch that traffic cops programme on BBC1 last night?
Kopite
i avoided it, was still wound up about that traffic wardens programme last week! plus was reading in the paper that they're gonna get recording devices to aid the prosecution of offensive motorists...... what do they expect when the traffic wardens were shown to be unfair and corrupt!!! bastards! how_supra
You see I deliberately avoided that programme. I have been lucky to date and never had a traffic warden experience. Perhaps the government could tax us by way of driver training courses..........at least we would get something out of it.
Kopite
yeah that'd be cool! so what happened on the traffic cops programme then? i had a traffic cop in for an eye test, he was goin on about how he blew up one of the police scoobys! i let him know that if he saw a speedin blue supra, to let it go because a VIP will be drivin

There was a girl who failed to remember to turn her steering wheel in time and ended up in a ditch. Then her friend came along in her car and in turning her car around, also managed to slide it down into a ditch. No comments please about women drivers (One car was green and the other was blue) There were also a couple of boys who had just passed their test and managed to crash their car into a canal. It was really scary! It just illustrated just how poor the level of driving skill is, and that you don't need any common sense to pass your test nowadays. I only passed my test 5 years ago, but atleast I had the common sense to do my pass plus straight after. I want to go on an advanced driving course. I really don't wish to be branded in the same way as these people were, or the folks to caused the chaos on the motorways this morning. John_M
To bl**dy right the roads are attrocious (sp?) Mate came off his bike Sunday after hitting the pothole in the pics below. Braking for the roundabout when front wheel dropped in this sunken cats-eye. The front forks fully depressed already, of course, due to the braking and next thing he knows he's over the top and sliding out into the roundabout with the bike close behind him! Luckily he was alright but the bike, leathers and helmet are written off.

Kopite
John - that pothole is sick!!! (and i'm not bein american and saying sick as in cool!) what's your mate doing legal wise? what about his insurance, have they recommended anything? Sabrina, you got Bravo? if you wanna be really scared, watch World's Worst Drivers!!
how_supra
Mate you need to get your friend to complain to the local council, as they should pay for any repairs as they are meant to be maintaining the roads. Those boys must have been driving really fast to have rebounded themselves into the river, that is my best guess. No cable I'm afraid, just channel 1 to 4. I don't even get channel 5 in my valley! :cry
Patrick_Devlin
Some roads are dreadful, with potholes all over the place. Still, it keeps the speed down. I cant go more than 30mph on some roads for fear of wrecking the underside!!! One thing that annoys me is the time taken these days to get major roads open after accidents. The police seem to spend an inordinate amount of time investigating some accident sites at the expense of thousands of other people (and ultimately businesses). I know that there is a need to find out what happened, so that lessons can be learnt that may help avoid subsequent accidents, but more emphasis shoudl be placed on getting the road open faster. John_M
Insurance company dealing with council I believe but I'm afraid that the local council's idea of repairs leaves a lot to be desired. You'll find, all of a sudden, there will be a stretch of the duel carrageways resurfaced leaving a good layer of loose stones. I have to avoid that area for at least two weeks for the stones to clear of have the paintwork stripped off the car!
