a98pmalcolm
Hay all, just a lil bit of downer at the moe for anyone else in a similar situation to share there thoughts on were they feel they are in there employment... Iv been at the bike shop now for over 6 years and if worked very very hard doing a non stop 9 hours a day 6 days a week. Iv started at the bottom and built myself up from a bike builder to trainee assistant manager to assistant manager to deputy manager from all my hard work. Iv was made deputy manager the past week with more pressure and more reasonability due the manager being promoted to a director. As I’m young and don’t get on 100% with the main director they have has a high senior manager (around 3rd highest in the company) come from another branch "to overlook" the workings of things with the intent to raise sales and up the turnover. With me being "promoted" they have moved the Mechanic (also a trainee assistant manger) to assistant manager. (Even though there is no "official" manager). 80% of the time the past few years I’ve ran the shop on my own selling most of the bikes, doing all the orders and paper work as the manager hasn’t been there due to covering other stores. So you would though they would have enough confidence to put me in a Managers position with assistance from this senior manager "overlooking" coming down 1 or 2 days ion the week.... To be honest it really feels Shi! That this has happened after all my hard work over the year but what makes it even worse is now I’m going to be on less money! With the newly promoted assistant manager on the shop floor with me I’ve worked it out to be about £400- £500 less a month as I will be earning less commission. So after mentioning to the director about a pay rise to help compensate the losses, he denied it... The answer was "sell more bikes"...I mean in any line of work if you have more responsibly or get promoted you get more money as an incentive!! I know with an extra person on the shop floor will make it easier on me but still there wasn't even a thought of helping me out! I really feel its time for me to move on from this job... But sadly I’m caught in a trap. Due to feeling sick 24hours a day a job interview would be near impossible! I don’t really have any major qualifications. All I could offer is promise to dedication and hard work, proving from the job I do now, working my way up from the bottom... What tops it off is I really wanted to give Suprapod a go this year to meet up with some of you members and have a sense that I feel more apart of this owners club... but I cant get it off even with it all the notice in advance AND I cant get the week off for the long awaited Gran Turismo 5... Thanks for reading if you managed though it. Just feel sometimes posting things like this on the forum takes it off my back a lil.... Thanks Paul

Graham S
I so know how you feel!!! I've been in my job for nearly 9 years. In my place it seems to be the higher up you are the more you get paid the less work you have to do.. The boss in our place is rarely there and the person above me sits on his arse all day so I get 75% of the work, with the youngest there doing the other 25% and he cocks up most of the time so I have to fix his stuff too, along with answering phones, dealing with customers and doing invoices! Plus the higher up people get company cars and their fuel paid for! Plus i'm the highest qualified there! I so want out to but in my trade (mechanic) I feel the right thing to do is start up on my own but it really is a case of being 'comfortable' where you are... I'm lucky and never had to do any interviews though as i've luckily been highly recommended. Have you not thought about starting up your own place? Sounds like you know all there is to know about running the place and ordering etc, just a thought...
pedrosixfour
Well if thats all that ever troubles you Mal, you'll go down as one of the lucky ones. Can't get a week off for the Gran Turismo release?? Now where did I put that violin?
Neil-NA
I know how you feel buddy. Ive been working in the same bike shop for 14 years now (since the day i left school) i'm now head mechanic and shop manager but i also have to advise the so called experts in our company on how to do their job. For us sales have gone up, staffing levels down but still the same low pay with no rewards, bonuses etc and in all honesty no real way out of the trade for me. DodgyRog
If this was in Member only section I would say a lot more......................... but I know how you feel, I am holding up the asst manager all the time and get all the crap, while the manager and asst manager sit in the office jollying. I wouldn't even employer her as a trainee, o to have a face that fits, it's not what you know, but who you know:tongue: I am very close to going back driving HGV's on an agency, just to get away

Lbm
Start a better bike shop by yourself?
kill1308
Start a better bike shop by yourself? I agree... Or if you haven't the inclination to start a business, it sounds like it's maybe time to look for another job dude. If you've been there that long and worked really hard, for them still not to value you, maybe your face doesn't fit or they just don't care about their staff. Although it's very daunting looking for another job and getting out of your comfort zone, it can be very rewarding and refreshing both for the mind and bank account. If you don't like the new job that you get, then you can always find another... At the very least, start looking see what's out there... you might stumble across your dream job
