Flushing & filling cooling system

Recommended Posts

I am going to drain, flush and fill the cooling system and not having a manual searched the internet for info, I found an article on MK1V Supras which seems to do it "right" but has lost me with some of the required bits, these bits are probably US spec and may have UK equivalents.

Could one of you knowledgeable gents point me in the right direction for the following:

Redline Water Wetter

Prestone coolant flushing kit

Also recommendation of a good cooling system flush.

Im using Toyota red coolant, distilled water, replacement Toyota bottom hose and a Paul E chrome finish top pipe.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Phil

Thanks for the info John and by the way my supe looks very similar to yours, I got it damaged and have replaced the drivers wing and front panel, Im waiting for a bonnet and will be fitting a Whifbitz nose cone after the HKS FMIC.

Come on all you techno wizards "Prestone coolant flushing kit" it looks like it makes flushing soooooo easy.

Cheers

Just flush out the old coolant. Take off the rad cap and then release the bottom hose off the rad. It'll gush out so be careful.

Fill with water and Holts rad flush

Run for 30mins (drive it around) get it upto temp and make sure its pumped round.

Drain and flush with a hose pipe (play with taking off different coolant hoses and blasting the water through the system in different ways.

Repeat if you're not convinced its all out.

Then when you've finished re-fill with 9-10litres or Toyota Red (its premixed so don't dilute it).

Fill it to the top and then run it. After 30mins let it cool completely and check the level of the coolant.

Don't forget to flush out the overflow too!!

Add water wetter to the mix if you are planning to track day it...otherwise it won't make that much difference. If the cooling system is in good nick it will handle the hottest weather and traffic jams.

That was a bit of a short explanation but you get the drift.
