paddy155
I was very, very suprised at how quick it was and the mpg he got was brilliant. I think standard it is 250bhp and he has had it remapped and it is pushing 350bhp and the torque is threw the roof. I never thought a diesel could be like this. Very impressed. May consider it as my daily driver.
mathew
my project manager has just bought one and ive been onto him about getting it remapped. very nice bits of kit.

Scott
A remap got him 100bhp?? It's just under that IIRC, I think there has been a bit of rounding up if it is just a remap. I think 320-330 is the norm. The torque is ridiculous though. I would absolutely LOVE one as a daily driver.
paddy155
not exactly sure what it had done mate but he say's it is 350bhp and I could believe it. He know's a fair bit about cars and has had them all and everyone was suprised when he got a diesel. He did do a bit of research before buying it. He has a mint j reg, saph cosworth 4x4,that he has had since new and he has that at 350bhp and he says there is not much in it between the two. My mate had a remap to his S3 and that made one hell of a difference as well mind you
paddy155
He thinks there would not be much in it between his diesel and the m3,same year. It is diffently a wolf in sheeps clothing.

mathew
i know remaps on diesels get much better gains than their petrol counterparts but has anyone experienced a before and after remap on a petrol car? im tempted to have mine done but seem a bit sceptical about the power gains and noticeable difference. Wez
Cracking motors, they take remaps really well.
paddy155
Westcoaster- no mate,no noise off it. thats the thing, you wouldn't even think it was a diesel. I have been looking at a lot of different cars but the thought of the fuel puts me off on these high performance cars. After a ride in this it has swayed me in favour of the diesel because of the mpg.
Bobbeh
My collegue has one, I thought they were closer to 300 BHP out of the box?
Josh
My mk5 Golf 1.9 tdi went from 105bhp to just under 150bhp after a remap and the torque has shot up. The mpg seems much better now, it could be better but it's too tempting to floor it when the turbo kicks in in second gear to see what mpg it's getting now
Westcoaster
Being 6 cylinder engines, I suppose they sound better than 4 cylinder diesels, my only experience of the 335d is in the back seat of a traffic car!
paddy155
he filled the tank up and we travelled from glasgow to inverness, then elgin, then to aviemore, then back to glasgow which was just over a 400mile journey and gave it a bit of welly up the a9 and back. We arrived back in glasgow with half a tank of fuel. Dont think he could have done that in the cossie.

Won't gain huge amounts on a naturally aspirated engine in comparison to the Turbo'd ones (if it's your Z4 you're talking about). I think it's something in the region of 15-20bhp and 20-30nm of torque on the 3.0 230bhp model. One of my previous cars was a Golf GTi 1.8T and that went from 148bhp to 212bhp which made a pretty huge difference to the car

It isn't that remaps are better on diesels than petrols... it's the turbo that makes the difference. A remap on a Diesel mostly involves upping the boost and sorting the fuel to match, a remap on an N/A petrol just involves tweaking the fuel slightly.... very little gain to be had. Similar gains can be had on petrol engines as you get on diesels. Diesel engines are torquer than petrol so don't expect the same torque gains though. To the op, the BMW would feel faster than the cossie IMO. It is the torque that gives you the acceleration you feel and the Diesel bomber will have a fair whack more. Notice that your mates figures have been rounded up to 350 again The figures are out of a hat, take them with a pinch of salt. Just let the bum dyno do the judging
caseys
I know you can get a 1.9TDI Mk4 golf, stock 110bhp, an AET hybrid turbo, new FMIC, pump and a remap and push 190bhp but more staggeringly 380lb/ft torque @ 2 bar of boost. Stupid stuff. Yet still can get 800 miles from £60 of diesel if driven normally. Friend's father has a 335d and has been having issues, also it seems the manifolds and fuelling systems on them don't like tweaking in the long term. Nice cars, but his experiences have put me right off modifying a 335 if i ever got one.

Still pulling like a train with 150k on the clock.
fuldhat
Same engine in 535d and 335d. No differens at all, it`s most likely the Remap, that will decidede how it goes longterm. A 335d/535d engine with a decent remap will get around 330-340 hp.

Engine is the same, yes - but there's more space in the 535d bay, so maybe the small amount of extra heat from increased boost isn't as kind to the 335d as the 535d? Mine is 344bhp and 560lb/ft according to DMS.
