Because they feel they have to cos of their beliefs?

Oh and IBTL

Apparently the Koran does not say that women have to cover their faces, it was ruled by the Ayatollahas, bit like the Koran does not promote violence but that does not seem to bother some advocates of that religion.

O Prophet! Say to your wives and your daughters and the women of the faithful to draw their JALABIB close around them; that is better that they will be recognized and not annoyed. And God is ever Forgiving, Gentle.

JALABIB is plural for Jilbab. The big question is as to what is a jilbab.

For this we look to narratives from the time of the prophet (pbuh) known as hadiths. Narratives can be interpreted differently according to sources, context, author etc...

For this reason a lot of muslims try to follow one of four main scholars that have studied the Quran and the hadiths. The four scholars agree the Jilbab to be a loose overcoat but have differing opinions on whether the Jilbab also includes covering of the face and that is possibly why you hear conflicting stories.

Muslims believe that any of the four scholars word can be followed but so as to avoid us picking and choosing a religion that suits us once you have chosen a scholar to follow for one ruling you will tend to stick with the same scholar for all others.

Also Im told the Koran or Quran if you prefer preaches equality and respect for women, I have NEVER seen equality or respect for women in any documentry I have seen on the middle/far east, they are treated as second class citizens and not allowed to do or say as they please, obviously all the do gooders think this is OK, I sugest you all trolley off home and tell your wife she is now to wear a Burka and not allowed out without a chaperone in public and see how far you all get.:innocent:

Advanced features, quote and then added the = to add in exactly which bit I'm quoting.

Lost me dude!!!;) But the quote proves a point. It is NOT a given that muslim women have to dress like ninjas!!!! strangest thing is porn from that area of the world, birds getting shagged senseless but thats fine they have a burka covering their face.

This thread will probably get closed down pretty soon.

The Quran and hadiths do ask for both men and women to be modest. It may be for this reason the muslim women are not shown in these documentaries as much as the men. My parents recently went to visit friends in Kuwait. The men and women were out ever night but they did their own thing. The men went to their tents for the sheesha and women out shopping or into town. The women let their hair down certainly, but only my father brought back pics. If my mum hadn't told me the places she did on holiday I'd have though she just stayed at home with the women and helped cook dinner.

My personal opinion on your comment is that it is down to culture and not the religion.

For me I felt more comfortable during the first few years of our marriage when my wife never did the scarf. Thing is she's chosen to wear it now and just as I can't force her to wear I'm not going to tell her to take it off.

At the end of the day everyone has their own opinions and bias on things. You say they're misguided and they say you are.

Too many people dont truely say what they feel because the pc brigade are right on their case branding them trouble makers and racist but at the end of the day theres more things in place to protect foreign nationals in this country than anything else.

The govt do more for them in the fear they will get branded a racist. After the July bombings in 2005 it should have been scrapped then for security reasons alone.

Yet here we are 5 years on and still theres people walking around with no identity hidden under a hood and whos to say there all female its a perfect way for terrorist cells to move around undetected. Scrap it end of its not the dark ages anymore!!!

IBTL.

Dude is right, its not in the Quran but mentioned in the Hadith. Both men and women are have to dress reasonably.

By the burka I'm assuming you mean the covering of the face not just the hair Dude and Tony? The ninja costume is called a Niqaab. It's more of a cultural thing than religious. There aren't that many people wearing them though. Why does the wind you up so much Dude? Lol you crack me up.

If my gal decided to wear a head scarf then I would greatly respect her for it but it would be a bit odd for me. Tbh she would never wear one that drama queen lol.

Muslims and their lifestyles are so much in the limelight now as compared to before 9/11. Its a shame the majority of the Western world's opinion is so negative about us based on the acts of such a tiny minority. I read a figure that 90% of Spaniards distrust Muslims. And the figures for Europe are quite similar.

It's tough times for us mussies: before we getting mauled like in the movie 28 days later I'm gonna stock up on some shotgun shells. BRING IT!
