Supra-Brett
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Damn`d Zafira. AA , man fixes it with simple addition of new spark plugs, although didnt have exactly the right temp grade so he installed grade 6 instead of 5). Advises i need to change ASAP. OK, cars running great, really really good, no probs, ive done a 150miles max so far, and Ive planned to go to Halfords tommorrow to get the correct plugs and swap em, and guess what. Drive the car tonight and just entering my road it starts again !!!! Chug, chug chug and stall just like before. Any ideas ?
SUPRALOOPY
Does it have the ecu just to the side of the engine on the right as you look into the bonnet?? ( I hope not)
Supra-Brett
Does it have the ecu just to the side of the engine on the right as you look into the bonnet?? ( I hope not) It has a fuse box behind the battery on the right, and to the right of the fuse box a plastic box with GM AMP and a few numbers written on it. Awisto
I think the spark plugs were a false diagnosis, although they might have needed doing if it's not serviced regular. They also don't show up in any live data readings. EGR valve is where my money is at.

The plugs are now fixed but the original problem remains:(
SUPRALOOPY
I'd go for cleaning the egr (although this can be monitored with live data to see if its the problem as they are VERY expensive) Or the coil pack is breaking down IIRC this is complete unit so will do all four cylinders. HTH

HTH OK thanks, I know where the coild pack is, and you are correct that its one unit for all for cylinders, but i havent got a clue where the EGR is. Awisto
I'd go for cleaning the egr (although this can be monitored with live data to see if its the problem as they are VERY expensive) £75 IIRC OK thanks, I know where the coild pack is, and you are correct that its one unit for all for cylinders, but i havent got a clue where the EGR is. Remove the engine cover,. about 6" away from the top right hand of the engine, held on with 3 bolts and has one electrical contact. Take a pic with the engine cover off and someone will point it out if you're stuck
barneybrendan
been looking at review on the zafiras lately.loads of people are saying they had faulty egr and thats even on new ones that have only done 20000 miles.
absz
been looking at review on the zafiras lately.loads of people are saying they had faulty egr and thats even on new ones that have only done 20000 miles. Its only common on cars that do short journeys, the egr valve remains open on light loads and shuts fully on rapid throttle response or high load, so driving around doing short journeys clogs the valve with carbon. IF you have access to live data you can compare the air mass readings to egr valve opening position to find out exactly what is going on with the engine as both are linked. i still believe you need to do a full diagnostic check done on OTHER ecu components on the vehicle to find the problem as most ecu's on that car are linked via can-bus. doing just a engine fault code read will not help if you have a intermititent fault with a canbus error fault to some components.
