Pilot ejects seconds before plane crashes!

Where's the sound of the explosion? You can hear the guy ejecting...

Amazing stuff though. Well done to the guy for surviving that!

Do you know what happened though?

I got the feeling he was flying too slow and stalled. I didn't think the F18 was capable of that kind of slow approach, but then again, they do land on aircraft carriers etc.

Pilot error. ;)

thats one stunning pic , the seats are designed to give them just enough height for the para shoot to deploy , plus it knows which way is up lol ,as you can see in the pic of the jets on the seat , i think the ruskies were the first to invent it

I thought that it was a British invention? I got offered a job at Martin Baker once who make these. Couple of chaps I worked with went there, great work they do and you become a member of an elite club if you've used one of their seats to eject :)

Some great info and vids on their site:

Edit: Good ole Brits.......'As the inventor of the Ejection Seat and supplier to over 70% of the Western worlds’ air forces, Martin-Baker is at the pinnacle of British engineering'

did he light his fart? :D

He's lucky he had his beans on toast that morning.

And the music playing, wow that's just spot on in a spooky way.

Them pics are brill and probably be used in a few fail threads :D

Clever that seat though

wasnt 100% paul remember seeing a documentary about the russian seat a while back where the seat was a leader in the field , so much so i think the US were thinking of putting it into theyre aircraft, i think it is something like a K 36D , only guessing here mate

Don't know about the Russian one mate, someone must make the other 30% of seats though ? I think Martin Baker are always developing their products so hopefully they'll stay the market leader for a good while and help keep the few British engineering jobs that are left, safe ;)

Not many serious injuries any more, more often than not they walk away unless pilots sustain flail injuries. You do get spinal compression though, you're allowed 3 ejections I believe before you become a desk jockey.

Hope he collected his Martin Baker tie

Jesus, i hate seeing airplane crashes, they just look like they put so much fear into you. I dont know what id do if i ever saw one.

You're fairly safe if you see one. If you can't see it crashing, then you're probably in it.
