foggy147
I'd echo that, as much as the finished product isn't to my taste this is a young chap learning new skills and making his own car look how he wants it to look on the budget he has available. I have more respect for this than someone just waving a visa card and placing orders for the next big crowd pleaser. When I was close to his age I think I was spraying the rusty arches of a Fiesta most weekends with rattle cans and being proud of my efforts, don't dampen the spirits of this enthusiast folks. Well said, and as long as he's happy with the result that's all that matters. I did my own wheels and from the start I knew they where never going to be as good as getting them professionally done, but they are still looking fine and it feels good knowing the amount of work you have put into it
Supra-Brett
I actually think a few of you are being VERY unfair... Sure it might not be the world's best finish, but he has taken the time to put his OWN effort into this. Unfair ? a few years back there were several threads saying that the price of Supras was about to drop through the floor because the price of some less well kept cars was approaching "chav type affordability". Cars like this will effect all of us in terms of prices. I do hope this car comes out OK, but its going to be very hard to get a good finish using a can in open air. dr_jekyll
dude stop now . if you bring your car down to me and buy the paint and prep it i know a pro painter that will do the whole car seriously cheap. if you must continue make sure its a good even finish with no patches or runs and you could get it clear coated to get a nicer glossy finish. just to clear coat it shouldnt cost too much

evinX
I cant believe you are using hamerite from an aerosol can !!!. I used exactly the same paint tin the same colour to spray my wrought iron garden table and chairs. Believe me, it doesnt go very far, and will cost almost as much to do the whole car as getting it doen by a garage. Also, i had horrendous trouble stopping the runs. You must be mad:D, but deserve some credit for effort/balls. Would love to see the finished result close up. Fingers crossed its better than my garden furnature:D Doing it in thin layers, every 10-15 mins i whack another on, if you look close its not the best, dust particles etc, but from a standing view it does look fab! seriously. evinX
Has the primer been wet flatted or are you just going straight over the top?? Treating it like a proper jobbie, flatting the primer down:)

Sure it might not be the world's best finish, but he has taken the time to put his OWN effort into this. I respect what you are saying and hands down too him. But I don't appreciate other peoples supras being slatted who have also put their own efforts into their cars. I'm sure the money spent on the kit etc a proper spray job could have been done. No consideration for the neighbours, over spray on their cars Read post 7 http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=223217

themodifiedkid
He doesn't want the glossy finish tho, and you wouldn't be able to clear coat over the top of hammerite (unless hammerite do a clear coat system themselves)

evinX
But how many votes will he need for hobbyist? I wouldnt, just wouldnt unless i had a closed enviroment for someones car. Its mine so its worth putting up with all the stress of keeping up with every bolt and part of the car here and there.

Shane
Think it will look great mate even if it only lasts a season and next year you have to try something else, or even dare I suggest buy a load more cans and do it again. Not sure why people think the Supra should be exempt from this sort of treatment, there are plenty of other Jap cars at shows/events that have been rattle canned. It's bug jam this weekend and bet there are a few of them painted in this way and look ok. Just because one Supra owner likes to spend their available cash on shall we say a professional paint job or maybe a silly body kit, that's their personal preference. Kevin is choosing to spend his the way he wants to and give HIS car some individuality and good for him. And whoever thinks that the amount spent on this approach could be comparable to a professional respray is dreaming. As for dragging the price of Supras down because someone wants his car to look different, that's almost paranoia. At the end of the day they are a 15 year old car and this sort of stuff will is what will happen. Go to any hotrod show if you need proof. Good on you mate, and if it causes this much reaction then I will most likely do mine satin black too, but I may use a paint roller and wait for a windy day.
