Advice on Conservatory Please

Dragonball

Recommended Posts

I want to bung up a conservatory on the back - probably about 18'x9' plus some decking to the side and front of it

Normal sort of thing - you know...

Will need PP as already been extended and a PITA as somehow have to accommodate the combi flue exiting (no cant move the boiler)

Any advice/thoughts on makes / installers please? Who to avoid etc.

Am in Twickenham area

Cheers

Best to avoid the big national companys as they will be over priced and you will have to go through all thier bull about suddenly Knocking a huge % of the quote if you sign then and there, being in a prime location etc.

My father in law got a few quotes from various people for:

1. 3.5mtr x 3.5mtr gable fronted conservatory

2. 2.5mtr x 2.0mtr gable front conservatory on the porch

He had prices ranging from £30K to his lowest of £15K.

I did both including groundwork and dwarf walls for under £6k. I have used ultraframe for years as it is quite easy to install and doesn't give me any problems, I also use the K2 roof system which is also very good.

You can get very good poly roofs now that reflect heat, or glass roofs with self cleaning glass and heat reflection..

Get some professional advice on the boiler. We moved ours into the garage to avoid this, even if we wanted to extended the flue we couldn't as it would've been outside of the boilers tolerances.

Each boiler will have a specification of how far the exhaust has can be fired horizontally or vertically.

Choose good tiles and decent grout, lots of hot/cold and also some movement in the base can lead to cracks.

Other than that as long as the frames meet type approval and there's a decent guarantee you should be ok.

I found prices fluctuated massively from firm to firm so get a few quotes.

Good luck Paul!
