stevie_b
Just out of interest, what does the custom firmware allow you to do that the official stuff doesn't? Sorry I can't help with your request. I have one of these routers but I just use the official firmware.
Whitesupraboy2
Just out of interest, what does the custom firmware allow you to do that the official stuff doesn't? Sorry I can't help with your request. I have one of these routers but I just use the official firmware. Loads of stuff to be honest its hard to narrow it down (im afraid alot geeky); most usefull stuff; Lower your SNR - most ISP's require an SNR of 6db, to give you a very stable connection without them getting lots of phone calls. Its well known 3db could infact give you a stable connection on alot of lines. So I lowered mine from 6db - 3.2db. My broadband sync speed went from 4.8mb to 6.5mb so I get an extra 2mb download speed and no line problems. You can lower it a few percent at a time, so you can go 5db, 4.6db etc... Other is you can turn the router into a wireless repeater which is usefull in big houses with no wiring to allow you to cover a wider range by linking to a 2nd wireless station. Gambit
Go here. http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2328 click 'downloads' then tick the box 'all versions'. Just for interest, I have the DG834N and although wireless devices can see it, they can't connect unless I go into the the netgear settings page and add the wireless computer's mac address. To find Mac address http://www.wikihow.com/Find-the-MAC-Address-of-Your-Computer http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/5979/image1de.jpg Hope that helps. I have wireless access list turned off. It is a bug with the version i've put on im sure of it. As by turning off all wireless security it connects fine. Just after a lower firmware to flash to resolve it.

Looks like they add more features and fix some of the bugs. http://dgteam.ilbello.com/index.php?pid=
