Finally got a Netgear DG834GT box off fleabay as the o2 wireless box they send is the most useless......anyway :D

I flashed with the latest version of DGteam 1018 and the wireless is useless on it (will only work without encryption...usefull :D)

Im after 1012 for the DG834GT but i cant find anywhere, anyone have any links or even a copy would be good.

cheers

On plus side it gave me an extra 2mb on the line speed and havent even played withe SNR yet :)

Just out of interest, what does the custom firmware allow you to do that the official stuff doesn't?

Sorry I can't help with your request. I have one of these routers but I just use the official firmware.

Loads of stuff to be honest its hard to narrow it down (im afraid alot geeky);

most usefull stuff;

Lower your SNR - most ISP's require an SNR of 6db, to give you a very stable connection without them getting lots of phone calls. Its well known 3db could infact give you a stable connection on alot of lines.

So I lowered mine from 6db - 3.2db. My broadband sync speed went from 4.8mb to 6.5mb so I get an extra 2mb download speed and no line problems. You can lower it a few percent at a time, so you can go 5db, 4.6db etc...

Other is you can turn the router into a wireless repeater which is usefull in big houses with no wiring to allow you to cover a wider range by linking to a 2nd wireless station.

Go here.

http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2328

click 'downloads' then tick the box 'all versions'. ;)

Just for interest, I have the DG834N and although wireless devices can see it, they can't connect unless I go into the the netgear settings page and add the wireless computer's mac address.

To find Mac address http://www.wikihow.com/Find-the-MAC-Address-of-Your-Computer

Hope that helps.

I have pondered updating firmware on my old 834N...i can never bring myself to do it though..it's been faultless for 4 years..and i'm a big advocate of the old 'if it ain't broke...' saying...

That and it cost a bomb..if i fry it lol

If you update the DG834N portforwarding goes pants. Don't do it.

Oops, your not after an official download are you.

Try the Mac address bit though, might fix your wireless issue.

I have wireless access list turned off. It is a bug with the version i've put on im sure of it.

As by turning off all wireless security it connects fine. Just after a lower firmware to flash to resolve it.
