simon H
HI Just had the RAC out and my starter motor has gone, does anyone know where I could get one and get it fitted around the Bedfordshire area? The RAC are going to tow it to a garage?? Thanks in advance Simon
Steve W
1) NEW one = Toyotas ? 2) Pattern/Refurbished one = unlikely ? 3) Get your one stripped and 'parts' fixed...... MUST be a place that repairs Alternators/Starters close to you ! We're doing it all the time - some of the REFURB'ED ones cost a fortune - repairs normally between £30 and £80 - they strip and just fix what's gone AS LONG AS it's not 'broken', casing etc....then it's new/refurb anyway [ps. we have several in Dagenham, but always use a Lucas agent... ~same prices, but, has parts more often, and, will be there LATER !] >> should find in Yellow Pages or, ask local garages ?? Alex
Have you tried phoneing the scrapper's hotline. You phone an agent and they ask every scrap yard they know for the part.

as5606
If you are not sorted yet, try Trevor Pridham at Toyota Celica Breakers. They got me a power steering pump at a fifth of the price from Toyota and shipped it next day for a tenner. Number is 01579 383879 or After Hours 01579 362762 Based in Cornwall. Hope this helps

Chris Wilson
Originally posted by simon H thanks everybody, Chris I do really need it now so thanks anyway Quite understood, the usual fault is burnt contacts, they fit dozens of other Toyota starters, my local dealer keeps the contact kits on the shelf. About 25 quid the pair I think.
RICHARDA
Same thing has just happened to me - but how do I know if it is the contacts, solenoid or the motor itself? (Just makes one click when I turn the key). Its a real bitch at the moment as the car is now trapped nose first in the garage. Toyota quoted £280 for a refurb and £320 for replacement? Unless I can somehow get it started (trusty AA man) I may have to get it towed to the Toyota garage. (Embarassing) Any ideas or shall I just have done with it and lay the car up for the winter? However I used to turn the motor over occasionally just to keep things lubed - can't even do that without a working starter motor. I only use the car when weather is good and was going to give it a run tonight as no rain was forecast for once. Typical huh! Any help greatly appreciated. Guest Martin F
Make sure your battery is not dead first. This can show similar symptoms.
RICHARDA
Thanks Martin The battery is fine as it kept on trickle charge - its def a starter motor problem, just need to try and get hold of one and fit it somehow as car stuck in garage and xmas just round corner. Happy holidays - huh!?
