j_jza80
You'll never gain the skills that an apprentice trained tradesman has. Most I've seen set up, go on for a few months and then vanish, usually due to lack of work, or poor quality work or lack of acumen/ cash flow. mathew
how long do these companies say that it takes for you to learn a trade?
Smallshinyant
They also run a home study guide for learning to program. After a bit of googling, they have some mixed reports. just beware of there hard sell http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2008/10/the_skills_training_thats_off.html
DanGX
Funnily enough - I applied to this when I was unemployed and things were looking desperate. I was looking into be being a lecky/plumber. Sounded good enough - If I remember correctly it was 12-20 weeks worth of learning and tests. A lot of the courses would be away from home and you'd have to find your own way there and sort out your own accomodation. Once you passed you be a lecky's apprentice for a year or two and then the world would be your oyster! The thing that put me off was the price - it was either £5995 or £6995 for the course but you got s free bag of tools. What a great deal - where do I sign! Perhaps it is a good deal, I don't know, but it seemed rather steep at the time especially as I had no income. You could pay it monthly admittedly and if you do have a job you can work sessions round work, but I remember them saying that I would have to commit to two sessions of 1 week practicals as part of the training. Anyway, a bit more info from someone who at least enquired.
Smallshinyant
I think i would rather go have a word with a local college first and see what they offer.
