marbleapple
Evening all, When I download a file, it downloads as it should (and space is taken on the hard disk) but the file does not appear where it should (and I cannot find it by searching). I am fairly certain that Windows is hiding it for some reason. I have searched the net and the only 2 useful suggestions to resolve the problem I have found are 1. Turn off Account Control (which is already turned off) 2. AVG is stopping it/AVG isn't being allowed to run (I don't have AVG although I did have it at some point and "scan with AVG still appears when I right click despite deleting AVG and alnot being able to find any AVG files) Does anyone have any solutions and on a second note, does anyone know how to rid me of the AVG elements forever? stevie_b
Which version of Windows are you running? What types of files have you tried downloading (e.g. .doc, .pdf)? If you've downloaded e.g. a pdf, can you see other pdfs on your hard drive? What browser are you using? In Firefox you can choose where files get downloaded to, or you can make the browser ask you for a location every time. I can't remember if IE is similar, it's been so long since I've used it. It does sound like your AVG (or what's left of it) could be placing the files in some sort of quarantine/holding area. I haven't heard of AV software doing this before (apart from for virus threats) but it's possible a broken copy could be doing this.
Abz
Think the main thing is what type of Internet browser are you using? Some file them away into a neat "download" folder which you should be able to access.
marbleapple
Hi. It is IE8. Firefox doesn't work either. They are downloading but the files are not appearing. Its an MP3 I am trying to download and it doesn't seem to be a problem when I download pictures. Some file them away into a neat "download" folder which you should be able to access. My downloads doesn't have the downloads either. The problem only started a few weeks ago, it used to save where I asked it to.

SupraDan24
What program are you using to download the files ie Azures, uTorrent etc?? Try creating a new folder, going into the settings and changing the destination to the new folder. Dan
stevie_b
If it's only MP3s that are a problem, I'd suspect some software may be blocking them. Also, are you sure that Windows Explorer isn't set to hide MP3s in the download folder? Seems unlikely, but worth checking.
marbleapple
I am not using anything to download. I click on the link and I can 'open' or 'save as'. Either way doesn't work where ever I try to down load.

Any downloading from a link.
Abz
If that is the case then it does sound like your Anti virus S/W could most likely be blocking it. When you click save, can you see it downloading? So there is a progress bar? This would rule out any pop up blocker stopping the MP3 files from downloading.

I don't have a virus scanner though.
Abz
Yes I can. I don't have a virus scanner though. Sorry you did mention it is being download as it is taking space up on the hard drive. Could you a search on the hard drive with the follow: *.mp3
Attero
I take it you have downloaded files before and you know where they are placed? If you haven't, check the location of your download folder via your tools. If you've installed new applications that set your default download folder, this could also be your problem. I've had the same thing happen before and wandered where the hell my files went! As for Windows 7, there is actually a downloads folder for all your downloads built into the OS. Check your libraries!
