Hi all, well im painting my car satin black, have done a few test bits, and they came out lovely! used armor all on them and they look really nice and clean with that on, but when i do the whole car i dont think i can use armor all on it? as alot of things will stick to it? its hammerite satin black, anyone got any ideas on some cleaning products i can use on it? could i use armor all on the whole body?

thanks, Kev

:D

and that:D

cant afford a proper respray, or have the enviroment to do it with a compressor + gun, this stuff is touch dry in 1 hour, offers 5 years protection from rust, dont need primer, base or clear, this has it all in 1, and i like satin black, nice temp colour, and £300 for a diy respray, could have got normal satin black paint but hammerite has lots more to offer.

Mirrors have been done and fitted, hmmmm

next are the eyelids and bonnet, bits that dont need much prep get painted up first to save me time/labour on the car, driver side door and skirt has been painted but need to flat it back to primer, as that was a test before i bought bulk paint, im working on my neighbours accident repaired vectra c, thats getitng a proper paint job:( so when thats done and ive got the room back and some pay for the work, the supra will get it!!!:D

more, as im using cans, its so hard to lay this thick to get a real smooth finish so im going for the rougher/moulded look the paint, not quite a orange peel effect though, and i really do think it makes the car look more aggressive

The supra is too round an curvy for satin black.

There was a guy on here with one in matt black, however he passed away :(

Rik gardiner, rip mate, used to talk to him on msn and used to give me advice with painting and stuff, his supra has definatley has an influence on mine, thats for sure, he used wilkinson satin black, not matt.

I know i can pull this of, i painted it with primer cans:D hehe, but for this bit, the wings are coming of, bumper, skirts, door handles, mirrors, tailgate, spoiler, so when it comes to the shell its not going to be to much, and ill do the doors first, dont want to remove those or the bonnet

Hey where abouts in Northants are you? I am also in the process of doing mine in satin black and have this weekend done the bonnet. I bought a whole load of satin black aerosols from a trader on ebay for a good price but, it initially looked matt more than satin.

Been experimenting the last day or so and it responds well to a quick once over with wet and dry, I used 1500. In one part I rubbed too hard and with not enough water on and it started to shine, but at the moment I am just playing and trying different tequniques on the bonet until I am happy. I figured as I have spent out quite a bit on the car the past few months, this would be a cost effective way of getting it all one colour (one I like) and if it doesnt look all that next year I just go for a vinyl wrap.

I do think also what you mention about the patterns from spraying will be my biggest problem, I always think when you see this at shows on cars it lets them down, so its interesting that the paint you are using doesn't show this up. Bit late now for me as I have loads of it already here though. Most of that comes out with a flattern I have found.

A few years ago (about the same time as Rik did his Supra) I sprayed an old van I had in agricultural grade matt black using an electric fence sprayer. It looked ok and lasted well.

Is this a wind up, you can't paint a car in hammerite. Please tell me you aint using a roller.

He is not talking about Hammerite in the sense of a Hammerite finish, like thousands of indents in the way they used to paint tool boxes and stuff years ago, now that . Hammerite also produce different paints in various finshes. Loads of cars you see at shows are painted this way, some good some not.

For me , I see mine as a temporary fix until I am ready to either get a glass out re-spray or possibly vinyl wrap.
