Ark
Chaps, I'm trying to do some work on the wifes Subaru and have a little problem - Much like our beloved drop-links, the nut I need to crack off just spins the stud...the stud has a hex socket intended to restrain it, but how the heck does one put a hex socket wrench and a regular socket over the top? I can't go in from the side with a regular wrench, because the nut is recessed... I did find something interesting that might help: Special tube socket Unfortunately this is the wrong size, and I can't find a 19mm version. Plus I bet I'll snapp any allen key I use to restrain the stud!! So, has anyone got any bright ideas? 'Coz that'd be awesome.
bignum
How about gripping the socket with mole grips while the allen key goes through the socket, also make sure the threads are all cleaned up and plenty of penatrating lube.
JustGav
Goose neck spanner and allenkey?
nasoup
I believe that the tube socket you pointed out are als known as injector removal sockets. Hope that helps you to find one with the size you need. You would be better off using an allen key in a rachet, theyre alot stronger that a standard allen key Edited July 19, 2010 by nasoup (see edit history)

None of the usual web-stores seem to know...Quick trip to Halfords is probably in order!

Ark
I'm on the north side of Winchester mate, any help gratefully received. Mind you, the whole thing might become academic - Jo is shopping for fancy top mounts now, so we won't have to re-use any parts. More research suggests they're also called offset spanners - time to get more toys...I mean tools.
movistar
On the Gator side of the drop link you may find that there is a double flat on the ball joint bolt, say about a 15mm.This is where it should be held not really on the hex part. Ark
Yeah I saw there was a cordless version. Also a few other brands that run off the car battery, but I always find that the battery versions are flat just when I need them. Can't beat 240 volts of delicious alternating current!
