Dyer864
Hi All ! Bought some bottom boot/tailgate rubbers off ebay last week, as mine were perished and thought this could contribute to the squeak i had in the back, thanks to Sauron saying that there's a set on ebay with allen key bolts to attach to rear wing as the phillips heads are a f***er to get out !! And guess wot , they are a F***er to get out, couldn't budge them , Wd40'd them over night ( slight movement ) a hacksawed very cearefully a groove thro the head of the screw to get a flat head screwdriver in as i rounded the phillips head very easily , and guess wot ! YES i turned it and the head come off the screw:( Now i'm f***ed , no boot rubbers and a broken screw with no head ! Any ideas , looks like drilling it out, but cos of the boot rubber is higher it's awkward to get at
Ian W
Should have used a bit of heat mate, seems to be the best way of getting the buggers out.

magictorch
Heat them up a bit.....break the glue seal;)
peter richards
i know its to late but there are a few threads on how to get them out as they are glued in and heat is needed to break the bond. cut off all the rubber this leaves an oval plate , get a heat source of some kind be carefull with the bodywork , i used a small blow torch with a point atatchment so got the heat in on top of the screw two minutes and they were out Edited July 19, 2010 by peter richards (see edit history)
peter richards
when the head broke off is there anything sticking out ? maybe able to get a small mole grip on whats there but still needs heat first

nevins
Easiest way is to get a pair of maul grips on the remainder r the screw mate.
Terminator
Toyota thread lock is awesome;) I had a similar problem when I tried to get mine out, I cut the rubber away, and got a gas soldering iron with a large tip on the oval, easy after that. supra_bus. evinX
Put a solder iron on the head, to heat it up and and prise it out, they are siliconed in:) heat will soften the silicone

Dyer864
Well after the advice i got on here, i got the soldering iron out whilst dodging the s***e weather we're aving and heated the screws up , whilst getting the oval plate out of the way first as it was a pain to get the maul grips on , and after a few attempts BINGO !! got them to undo, and the one screw with half a head on , came out easy enough as there was enough of it left to get the maulers on . and fitted the new ones in 5mins , alot easier with the allen type screw to put on Thanks guys for the info ! (didn't think there would be a search on these on how to get out, cos it looks so easy , but nothing easy for me , sure i got a big S**t cloud over me when i do a bit of diy ) Edited July 21, 2010 by Dyer864 (see edit history)

Rummy
Should have used a bit of heat mate, seems to be the best way of getting the buggers out. Changed mine today Thought I'd try the hard way first. Soldering iron wasn't enough, got the impact driver out for a little gentle persuasion, still nothing. Tried to chisel the side of the head in an attempt to knock it round...screw just laughed... Off to halfrauds to get a blow torch, 20 bucks and 5 minutes later...voila! Heat is definately the way to do these without a doubt!
