TRD3000GT
I hate the bonnet catch on my supra and am finding myself spending more and more time under the bonnet. Are there any gas struts that can be fitted so that she holds herself up?
Jake
Like the Vectra ones? Good idea. I'd be interested in that too if anyone knows of a conversion.
terribleturner
There was talk here about them. Good idea if it can be done.
blue-luck
i wanted to put some on my car, i was just going to modify the chrome VW ones but as i have a fibre glass bonnet, i was told that the power of the struts could bent the bonnet... but if anyone does go ahead with the idea, i would like to know how it goes. wez_p
was admiring my mate's bonnet lifters for his new fibre glass bonnet on his Skyline last night & wondered whether there was a kit for the Supra couldn't find much on Google but surely those crazy yanks will have done this at least! RobSheffield
i started that last thread, and could find little. i used to be active on GTR.co.uk, and the thread linked above has a link to the gtr group buy. sadly the japanese company that supplied the GTR boys doesnt do a Supra fitment it was suggested we look to use Mk3 struts (from 92 K cars), maybe modified a little, or alternatively, maybe some vectra ones, mounted with the lower arm further back, to provide less lift for GRP/CF bonnets? any tech types know if that would work, or could come up with other ideas?? Robert
i would love to have a set of bonnet lifters on the supra, would be a great idea, maybe peter richards could help? as he got some new rear struts made up.
keron
you can get the small chrome ones from the shows for about 10-15 quid a pair....the only person i know who has done this is glens gold supra. (is it the nemisis one?)
RobSheffield
maybe peter richards could help? i thought that too, but it was peter who suggested the MK3 supra bonnet struts. the tailgate ones are much longer, and his engineering contact wouldnt be able to do the struts for a sensible price for us
Miguel
The ones that the VW boys use I reckon would work OK. I've got one on my little golf and they are realllllllllly pre loaded to much in fact for the small VW bonnet ..but for a Supe they would be spot on ..and they are not that expensive and really easy to fit Circa 20 quid and they were universal not car specific. John_M
Tein were developing these for various motors but, in January, they hadn't started on a kit for the Supra yet. Will see what I can find out from them.
