T2 MSW
When taking the diff off and removing the drive shafts. If the bolts for the drive shafts are covered in oil does that mean the diff seals are screwed? Cheers

bignum
Is it oil or more like grease?
T2 MSW
now you mention it its alot thicker than oil is more like grease. Is that normal then? One side has more than the other for sure.
bignum
There`s a cap on the end of the driveshaft, its possible for the cv grease to come out into the flange onto the driveshaft bolts.normal i think.
T2 MSW
Ok got the diff off today (what a PITA) and its the drive shaft thats shot. Diff is still leaking so need to sort that. How the hell are you ment to replace the fluid in the diff with it on the car?? That would be a nightmare. Also how much oil should I put in it when I fill it up? Ive got 2 litres. Cant you tell this is the first diff I have opened up
Swampy442
Its easy draining it, not so filling. The hardest part i found was getting the drain/fill plugs out! As for litreage its less than 1 if I remember correctly
bignum
Most gear oil bottles come with a little tube attached to the top of the bottle, put the tube in the diff and squeezy the oil in, the gearbox is more awkward.
T2 MSW
Should be easy then as I have the diff off. Will reseal it one night this week and then I got to get it back on not looking forward to that.
