Ive just done a quick vehicle check on http://www.carwatchuk.com

I entered the VIN number and Reg, paid a surcharge of £3.00 and it has given me some useful info.

It says it is a manual (which isn't true) and also says the car was recorded as a Stolen/Recovery subject to a total loss claim.

Would this explain the VIN plate missing business do you think?

I'll take your advice and get onto them straight away!

Shall i stop the CC payment before i speak to them?

I would call the CC company straight away, ask for their advice, ask them how long you they will allow you to dispute the said payment (normally 60 days) - i wouldnt personally stop the payment BEFORE talking to AK cars.

i see two options:

- get your money back and walk away (then report the incident to the police, which magazine, name and shame)

- get them to sort out the identity and tax the car.

I would personally go with option 1 if you are in the slightest bit unsure about the car (it will always play on your mine) - who knows..there could be other hidden secrets....better get it checked by a professional.

Damn......

Id get my money back straight away....IF THIS IS NOT CLASSIFIED AS A PRIVATE PURCHASE then you have rights, and by cancelling your CC payment you should be able to get your money back.

try these too

Yes i part ex's a mk4 golf gti turbo.

I have printed out various copies from different sites now and am comparing them. I will use this as evidence when i speak to him tomorrow. Also getin touch with the CC company and ask them to put it on hold for the time being or something.

Thanks guys. You've been a major help this evening!

ok, question from my side....

when you say HOMETRADER, is the sale classified as a TRADE sale or PRIVATE? if private then you wont be able to stop the CC payment as it will be classed as "purchased as seen".

have you got a receipt with their company details, transaction details (supra reg number?)

I wouldn't have thought too many non-businesses would have credit-card processing facilities, would they?

What a nightmare for you, mate. I hope you get it sorted. If it turns out that you end up losing the car but getting your money back I'd suggest checking out the traders and/or private sales on this forum.

Good luck to you.

Not sure if I would want to keep the car even if it had been in an accident and someone forgot to put the VIN plate back on.You might have problems selling it in later on aswell.

Best to get your money back.

If the seller is refusing to do this then mention that if he doesn't you're going to get Trading Standards and the Police involved.

I'm sure he'll cough up rather than get his business investigated.

I had a van which didn't have a VIN plate, I think it must have had some frontal damage. The MOT bloke refused to test it without one. I didn't have any problems getting one made up by someone on the net, didn't even need the registration document.

Ok. Just called him.

Told him about the missing VIN plate. He said he was aware of the case and had delved into the matter more to find out the vehicle had a wing replaced following a minor accident. Just gets better doesn't it?! He said the plate was not transferred over.

He said he's never touch a car if the cassis number had been tampered with on the bulkhead.

Sorry to hear about this C, I had a similar thing happen to me here in HK with a previous car and it sucks.

I never had any good experience with UK DVLA, I have had good experience and a lot of help from Trading Standards dept in the past, about a totally different matter, it would be worth contacting them and finding out your rights.

You might also want to speak to a solicitor about the matter if you can't resolve the issue with the trader directly. Not a cheap option but if the company who sold you the car is contacted by your solicitor, then they know you mean serious business.

His story could be true about the wing tbh.

BUT did you ask him about the history being from a Hilux and not the Supra, and that the HPI came up as a different car? TBH I would just say to him to refund the CC charge and get your old car back or you will take it to trading standards and the authorities.

I would stop accepting excuses, which just buys them more time.

Either demand a full and undconditional refund, or risk being left with a car that you cannot sell afterwards.

You don't know how long they're gonna be at that address either, why risk it when there are so many other good cars out there?

It's not like you've paid a couple of grand for the car and resale value is irrelevant, right?

should be a silver plate on the inner wing but yes the chassis number is also on the bulk head

Which bit of the body do you actually mean by the "Bulk Head"?

I'm not familiar with this term. Ta.

PS:

Can anyone recommend a company in the UK that do competitive priced aftermarket styling/bumpers?

Glad you got it sorted Ceptik! There are total twats on this earth, though not as bad as you ... but I had a run with a trader in Mychett. He was selling a black Supe ... real nice from about 5ft. Then you notice that the front half was metallic black ... the rear half was matte black!

I would have wanted my money back and found another.

Money back .. as well as good fecking kicking! Robbing, thieving dirty pikey bastard!
