Kirk
I honestly would not even bother with the UK. A lad from my work is emigrating to aus to do the same job which pays better than over here. The motor trade is dead at the minute and to be fair a load of garbage. 70% of the job is now paper work, employers are only interested in pieces of paper that says you can do the job which is a load of crap. I've seen many people come and go at our place with all these flashy qualifications and they can't even do the most basic of stuff but yet they still get payed more than me cause a piece of paper says they know what there doing Do yourself a favour, stay where you are. Depends when you are looking to start I could ask at my place if they're looking for someone! Cambridge isn't far from London, pay's not to bad either! Edit: it's a lexus and Toyota dealer that would be awesome. id be looking at coming over in april next year, if you can ask id appreciate that. i know its different from subaru but i can adjust. I don't know if there are any dealing with the motor trade, but there were a number of temp agencies for the health professions when I came over in 2009 - I used JustPhysio, for example, and they helped me with organising all the paperwork (visas and professional accreditation, medical and police checks etc) and found me a job very easily. Perhaps something similar would be worth looking into? Alternatively, if you have relatives here then staying with them would solve a few accommodation issues. They might also be able to network for you for jobs. I do have my uncle who lives in the London CBD, as i would be bringing me girlfriend with me i'm not sure it would be appropriate if we both stay at his apartment. perhaps for a temporary thing but not permanent. maby i should start turning to the agencies to help my in finding a job. thanks for the suggestion

Guest livingthedeadbe
id love to work for prodrive but im thinking it would be very hard for me to get a job there. im moving more to the idea of working in a local performance garage

Guest livingthedeadbe
wow.. thread revival. Its now march 2011, and im still wanting to move to the UK..
ozz
I looked into importing cars to Oz from UK, was about 1200 for shipping (I guess the same coming back) so you could bring it over. Alternatively, sell it, come to UK for a year then buy a TT to take back with you. My 330 coupe for instance is worth about 9k in UK, same car in Oz is 15-20k!!! marc_p
I'm desperately wanting to leave this country, it's cold, grim, miserable and taxed to the hilt, luckily I seemed to have managed to stumble onto my exit route to the states so planning on moving there in the not to distant future. Hope you enjoy it anyhow
Josh
I'd suggest just Googling "performance car garage" or "performance car tuners" for the area you want to live and just get in touch with them to see if they have any jobs going. When I've searched for jobs in the automotive industry around Birmingham, a few jobs come up for qualified and/or experienced mechanics at car dealerships and independant garages. May be worth a shot!

I have no mates left who went abroad and stayed, they are all back here, thats from Australia, USA, Spain and Thailand, the novelty soon wears off and home is where the heart is. marc_p
The only expats I know that have gone back have done so under duress from the missus. Half my family have moved to the states and would never dream of moving back, I also have a few freinds who have moved to Australia and New Zealand and they also have no intention of moving back whatsoever.
