jonathanc
Tried Googling but can't seem to find an answer on this. Let's say I have 2 servers on my network connected together via a gigabit switch. I log on my network via my laptop using WIFI. I open a folder on Server 1 and another folder on Server 2. Let's say I copy a file from folder on Server 1 to folder on Server 2 does it go through my laptop before copying over? ie the file copies over to my laptop from Server 1 and then my laptop sends the file to Server 2 or does it go through directly via switch? imi
If you are opening them through windows explorer on your wifi laptop then it will go through your laptop and you will see Wifi speeds / 2. However, if you terminal service / RDP into one of the servers and then copy it across it will go straight to the other server.

I guess I will RDP into WHS then... Why is this so though? I honestly didn't realise this until today... Thanks for the heads up tho
Abz
Yep as imi mentioned, using RDP is just like being on the server. IT question on a car forum answered in 3 minutes, quality

If i want to use Robocopy to copy folders over the network, must I RDP and run the command line from the source or can I just run Robocopy on any pc connected to the network specifying their network directories? JustGav
If you are copying a lot, consider using synctoy, handy if you need to stop and then resume
MaveriK
As both servers are on the same piece of string map network drives(to route admin) between both and use RDP. PS Tools are worth looking at as well.
