Karate Kid - Ruined a Classic

Anyone seen this yet? What an absolute load of dross. The dialogue is back to the 90's, the story is a hacked up & spewed out mess of the original and the acting is some of the worst I have had the misfortune of watching.

The stereotypical 'Black' Mum is just unbelievable. I couldn't believe my ears with some of the lines she had, might as well have added "fried chicken" in there at some point. In a comedy this sort of thing may work in a parody nature but this movie tried to pass itself off as serious(ish).

The replacement of the crane had me laughing out loud also.

Cringeworthy, steer clear if you liked the original in any way shape or form. One for the very young kids at most.

The differences in the background aren't actually that bad. They are pretty fluent actually. It is all to do with the culture differences. ***SPOILER IN WHITE*** The Chinese kids don't like the idea of a Black kid hitting on their girls. Hence why he gets hassle.. Goes on from there, no bad students only bad teachers etc.

He doesn't, he plays Mr Han, and IMO he is hopeless in this flick.

Was there any doubt a remake wouldn't work?

The movie industry can't seem to crack it or maybe they just want the money and know those who watch it as kids will go and see it.

They do seem devoid of good ideas, as for karate kid I thought if was dross the 1st time round.

I hope they don't do other classics from around that era like Short Circuit or Batteries Not Included.

It kind of makes me feel a bit older now having films I watched lots as a kid being remade.

Last decent remake i saw was Inglorious. Otherwise I can't say I've seen that much good stuff come out of the US in the last couple of years.

Oh bar Wall-E.

What about Data, Gok Wan?

What about Sloth, Sarah Jessica Parker?

Exactly, it's not like they're remaking Citizen Kane. Nostalgia's one thing, but the original is painful, even for kids.

The Goonies seems to be quite a lot of shouting and running around to no particular end.

No, but perhaps Hollywood may do Citizen Kwai Chang Caine.

As for your Goonies review - disgraceful :D

Screw this film, I cant wait for The Expendables, Arnie Swartz, Sly Stalone, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, Jet Li.........all in one film = 90's awsomeness, but dont expect a brilliant script/story line, expect lots of action/guns :D

Mrs T is a Goonies fan, and I've seen it a couple of times. I just don't get why it didn't go straight to bargain bin heaven. I like quite a few kid's films, but watching that is like being trepanated by a mutant woodpecker. As Macbeth put it, it's a 'tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.'. Which, come to think of it, applies to 95% of multiplex fodder out there.

I think Schwarzenegger is only doing a brief cameo in it.
