j_jza80
I'm starting to seriously miss having a powerful car in my life, so i'm currently toying with various ideas. I'm going to have around £4k to spend on the base car in October, although I may hold out for a bit longer and spend a bit more. This will be an ongoing long term project, and i'll have around circa £10k next year to spend on it, and maybe roughly the same again the year after, if it warrants it. So far, my ideas are: 1) Single Turbo 6 speed Supra, maybe starting with a 6 speen NA or a cheap manual TT, buying well priced parts from the classifieds and traders on here. 2) An LS powered 6 speed RX7. There's loads of parts available for this conversion, and there's no shortage of RX7s being broken so parts are cheap. 3) Porsche 944 with an engine swap, not decided on what powerplant I would go with, but again there's loads of aftermarket support for fitting LS series engines in these. 4) Audi S2, pretty bland looking things but tough, very tuneable, THAT 5 cylinder soundtrack and aftermarket products for altering bias to the rear (adjustable, which I could see being handy). I'd really like to hear you opinions on these or alternatives though, as i'm quite open minded about this. The majority of the spanner work will be done by yours truly, and i'll outsource any fabrication work, electrics and mapping I want doing. In the mean time, i've got £1k put away to buy a random RWD car from the auction house again, so hopefully i'll be driving something cheap and bonkers in the near future
JamieP
Most here are going to say supra. I would stay away from anything LS based if you want to tune it, im on the hsv forum a lot and anything over there that has been worked on in any way seems to live in the workshops, they are forever breaking engines and gearboxes. I thought the S2 was 4wd? I have always liked Soarers, been tempted to mod one of them myself a few times.
HadeS
Must say. Soarers are quite nice to drive (experience in 2.5tt) Like a big boat. Not very nice looking cars imo. What about nissan 300sx?

Thanks. I do like Soarers but most of the ones i've seen look pretty tired. Also, fitting the V160/V161 is a pain apparently, and that's probably the only gearbox i'd want to go for. The R154s are available pretty cheap but again alot seem old and tired. I was also looking at 200sx's but I don't really like any of the engines in them, and the cheap ones are all rotten. What about nissan 300sx? I'm not too keen on the looks of the 300ZX, plus they're a very similar animal to a Supra and nowhere near as tough. The VQ lumps in them are sh1te too I had a GS300, and imagine a Soarer is very similar to drive, ie not sporty. I know they're used for drifting, and can be modified well for that purpose, but I've loads of excellent back roads on my doorstep, and want something quite involving. Most would probably opt for an Evo or an Impreza, but they're just not for me.
Josh
Nissan Skyline R33. Can be picked up pretty cheaply for say the GTS-T model then you could swap the engine over for an RB26-DETT possibly. Or even go for an R32 model that's still in good working order.

Thanks fr the suggestion, but no thanks. These things are an endless money pit, and there's "Skyline tax" on all of the parts. It's a shame as for me the RB26 is the nicest sounding straight six available. I do think that Subtle looking R32s are very nice. on an unrelated note, i've just noticed the garage selling that GTR is also selling this: http://www.carsensor.net/usedcar/navitop.php?STID=CS212100&SHOP=216389001&BKKN=CU0005843812
