I have heard talk of it being a legal requirement on all new cars at some point in the future.

 

Correct, however I think the OP is not referring to the safety element of their fitment- no brainer- but to the apparent chaviness of a string of LED's on a new, well engineered vehicle.

\i think they look shite and completely spoil most cars:d

Could not have said it better my self, They just look like some bought from halfrauds, they just look absolute rubbish imho.

The law has not passed on these yet have they, So if the vehicle has side lights dipped and main, then there is no legal requirement for them to be operational, and im sure they do not come into the mot so therefore can be disconnected.
