Swapping JSpec brakes to UK

Hi

I've read through the forum and see a lot of people have done this and are very happy with the results. I just wondered if any of you guys who have could let me know which parts are needed and an idea of costs.

I had a cost of around £1200 in my head from somewhere for fronts but then my local Toyota dealer told me to double it! (Without checking prices I might add and after telling me it was flat out impossible and that everyone on this forum must be wrong! Don't you just love how helpful some dealers can be! LOL)

Many thanks

Hi m8

A long and torturous request - If you look up the thread 'group brake buy' - all the part numbers are on there together with an indication of normal retail costs

Basically the dealer sounds like he is talking $hit - and yopur initial reaction to price is about right

There are alternatives to the toyo std UK specs - and these have to be considered is the UK's wont fit under your alloys (and usually dont) - again check out the threads history

If you want any info on fitting HiSpec brakes (which are 6 pot and do fit under skinny alloys) to your Soop let me know

Cheers

I'm sorry Ice, but i very much doubt anybody will answer that.

The reason being as it's not so much the size of the wheels but more their offset and the way the spokes are formed. Nobody could tell you 100% unless they just happen to have the same wheels as you. The only true way to find out is to offer your wheels up to a car that already has UK spec brakes fitted.

its funny u should say that :) , when i looked into getting some of them takakaira said they would fit but it was very tight (about 2mm clearance). i offer no guarantees with this info and u should still do as martin has suggested.

I always thought the brakes would expand massively when they get hot and then rub against the caliper, but I have seen some wheels on supras with big brakes that are very very close to the spokes but do not appear to have rubbed at all.

Would the calipers expand sufficients to make then rub if the tolerances are too close or are they designed to expand as little as possible?

I think they are some sort of steel, which wouldn't expand that much.
