stinboy
Hey all. Took the car out for a spin this morning and I have a problem under boost. The 'whooshing' sound has become incredibly loud under even the smallest amount of pressure. I suspected a loose hose so stopped and checked but couldn't see a problem. I tried to stay off boost going home, but when I did give it a tickle the boost gauge is reading 0.7bar as normal - surely it would be far lower if there was a leak? Spent this afternoon seaching the forum and so have checked the intercooler pipes to ensure they are intact and they seem to be. Just taken it out again up the road and back and the problem hasn't magically diappeared. Lots of whooshing, boost gauge normal and no noticable dip in power. Just had the bonnet up as well forlornly looking for anthing odd and when the turbo timer cut the engine there was an audible burping sound from the turbos! Help I'm totally stumped!!!! richarde7927
thats a good one i had this but i had no boost as i had an intercooler pipe off . Have a look at the smaller pipes around the turbo , if its a smaller pipe off you could get the noise , but as its a small pipe no drop in boost . is your air filter and pipe work still on ok ? get some one to rev the car for you and you have a look around for the source of the noise . stinboy
Cheers Rich No prob with the air filter but i'll check the smaller pipework again in the morning
stinboy
Rechecked all hoses and still can't find any off or any cracks. Thought one of the intercooler pipes didn't look quite flush so reconnected it and still no joy. Revving the engine would be ideal but as the turbos don't spool i can't pinpoint the source of the noise that way. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do next really.... Ian C
Check the turbo blade tips for damage and the shaft for play, might be it's hitting the casing slightly, causing the noise but otherwise still producing boost.
stinboy
Ok - is there an easy way of doing this without taking things to bits. I'm not the most technical i'm afraid....
stinboy
It's definitely boosting fine but the noise is definitely a whooshy one. I'm clutching at straws now - could it be the BOV? Sorry for the constant posting about this folks but i'm at my wits end....
Ian C
Ok - is there an easy way of doing this without taking things to bits. I'm not the most technical i'm afraid.... You only have to take the hose off the front of the turbo, probably one jubilee clip If it's wooshing though, you've probably got a stuck BOV or a leak. The turbo may be working harder to keep pressure up despite the leak.
