Safe Boost Level

Recommended Posts

I've done quite a few searches but can't find a definitive answer as to what is a safe boost level I can push the car to with my current setup.

With hybrids, fmic, full decat and uprated fuel pump what would others expect to be running?

The Blitz dsbc settings restrict me to around 1.2 bar at the moment which I'm by no means unhappy with particularly as I still have the stock traction control.

Would I need further fueling mods to exceed my current settings?

Am I just getting too obsessed with boost levels:)

So many questions..............

Thanks Adam

Should have mentioned mine is a UK spec so presumably injectors should be up to the job.

Would love to say I know what you mean by a wideband o2 setup but.......... :)

Are there many garages/tuning shops with this sort of equipment?

The guy who fitted the turbo's will have one I suspect, have you spoken to him on the subject of boost levels?

Leon fitted these for me.

I was in a bit of a hurry when I picked the car up so I didn't get a chance to chat to him.

Thinking about it I guess he probably does have one.

What exactly does this device do?

amidst the srapping there is a fair bit of info in the "Oz DIY Wideband" thread in this section.

Leon will advise on boost levels

Measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gases, which then tells you the air to fuel ratio (a/f ratio), ie whether you're running too lean or not. I would also invest in an exhaust gas temperature gauge for extra peace of mind at those boost levels, if cylinder temps get too high you can melt some expensive stuff . . . proper a/f ratios should keep temps under control but it's nice to know for sure.

The very reason for me starting this thread!!

Don't want to be doing damage by tinkering with stuff I know very little about.

I'll definitely be investing in some goodies to monitor things soon (not even a boost gauge at the moment)

Before you do anything else get a boost and EGT guage fitted. Before you can really work out what boost to go to you need to see how well your current setup works. Your FMIC should be helping the cooling nicely and the hybrids will be flowing more air, but you need to make sure that your EGT isnt too high when running at the top end.
