Samsung Galaxy S

I have one, the super-AMOLED screen is stunning and I am told wont be on any other brand of phones for 18 months or so. Not as many pixels as the new iphone4 but its much brighter, half an inch bigger and the colours are allot more vivid which imo makes it a better screen when you compare them side by side.

It's very fast too, i'm told the Samsung 1 GHz processor is quicker then the snapdraggon 1 GHz processor in the desire but I doubt there's much in it. The only down side is if your playing a game or something on it the battery will only last 4-5 hours but at least it can charge from any usb socket on a standard lead.

Some people say it feels a bit cheap as it is very light but again its down to your own preference. Personally I like how light and thin it is.

The camera is the best I've used on a phone and the HD video recording is great. The only thing missing is a flash. I have never liked to use the flash on any camera but they do make useful torches on a phone. The screen however is bright enough to use as a makeshift torch should you need to.

The amount of supported video file types is also very good and I have had no trouble playing back huge divx avi's, mp4's etc. Videos really do look good on the Super-AMOLED screen.

:(

One thing the lad in car phone warehouse said was this is a better phone than the HTC desire, so it should be good.

My friend sold his Desire as soon as he saw my Galaxy S. The screen blows away the Desire and Iphone 4 (unless a tiny bit more resolution is more important to you) and the processor has three times the Gfx power than the snapdragon CPU in the desire. (It's also one model up from what is used in the iPhone 4 also)

For me it's an iPhone 4 with longer battery life, no signal issues, expandable memory, less restrictive market etc.

It's not without issues itself though, the market sometimes lags and until the new software update is released only half of the 0.5GB RAM is available.

I set one of these up for my dad last weekend, and was surprised how good it was. Probably not quite as good as my 3GS but a very good alternative. Intact the design is obviously a rip off of the iPhone, although that's no bad thing IMO

Pretty Much sums it all up I think.

Isn't the Galaxy already running the Eclair 2.1 software? 2.2 Will be released soon AFAIK

Yes. It might get 2.2 since that's available now anyway and the Galaxy S has only just come out... but I wouldn't bank on it ever getting anything else.

The original galaxy is still officially stuck on 1.5 even though it is still being sold.

  • 1 month later...

At first, my Galaxy was very slow. But I am a veteran user of Android and quickly installed TaskKiller. Now the memory problems are sorted. The battery life isn't great. Even with all energy using forms of communication off (WiFi, BT), it doesn't last a whole day

But I love it. FB sync with contacts. Amazing camera, but could use a flash! Taken some lovely pics of the sup using it. Live wallpapers are awesome on the AMOLED screen. Live Earth is awesome!

Recommend it. Apparently 2.2 is out in September. Hopefully fix battery life

Here is a panoramic shot taken with the camera today

I love the phone, first contract phone I have ever bought after being on PAYG since about 1996. As soon as I saw the ads I had to have one :)

The screen is amazing and video playback is good. I have an 8GB micro SD card in it as well and for watching movies on as your drifting off to sleep its pretty good. The msn client is very good also and the swipe method of text input lets you text much faster.

However by far the best thing is the apps, I have emulators for SNES, Megadrive, NES, Spectrum, Amiga and gameboy so for so getting your megaman or manic miner fix its never been easier :)

The web browsing works well also, very easy to navigate and theres a few decent RDP clients to remote desktop to your home PC to download torrents or just use a straight torrent client.

Only possible downside I would say is that it can feel a little sluggish when downloading / installing apps but I havent tried task killer yet (only had it a month).

Sample vid here (not embedded as it's 720p)

Just put a playstation 1 emulator on mine - plays wipeout XL nearly perfectly so quite impressed at the power of this thing.

Also worth trying Quake 3 plays real smooth (just need controls now :p )
