BazzaAlpine Posted July 9, 2010 Share Posted July 9, 2010 (edited) This may sound really stupid as I'm not sure if I even have managed to work out if this is the right part especially as the diagrams point to Air Bypass Basically it is a small round metal object with 3 pipes (2 about a 2-3 cm diameter and 1 about 1cm diameter) coming off it. It sits above the turbos heat shield. A tiny bit of oil seems to be either getting past (not when idling I should mention) the clips or from the valve itself (going to attempt to take it off and look tomorrow) and making a hell of a mess on the heat sheild. Basically does this sound as minor as it seems or have the more experienced owners come across this before and it is potentially a prelude to something major? Prays to god it's the first option! It's normal to get some oil in the pipes, it shouldn't be dripping out though, it may just have built up and be getting past the clips. Clean the BOV/pipes and use some new jubilee clips to secure the pipes. Is the car running fine otherwise? Any blue smoke out of the exhaust on gear changes? I had a bit smoke when I floored it with overdrive off last weekend and then when I started the car the following morning but since then nothing out of the exhaust though I have been getting a black dusty residue appearing on the rear bumper every day. I had a bit smoke when I floored it with overdrive off last weekend and then when I started the car the following morning but since then nothing out of the exhaust though I have been getting a black dusty residue appearing on the rear bumper every day. Will clean the pipes and BOV off tomorrow morning and see how it runs on the way to the Bury St Edmunds meet. A puff of blue smoke when changing gear is usually a sign of worn turbo seals and would also account for an excess of oil in the intake pipes. Blue smoke on a morning when starting from cold is usually a sign of worn valve stem seals. As long as it's only the odd puff of smoke and you keep an eye on the oil level then it'll be fine. BazzaAlpine Posted July 10, 2010 Author Share Posted July 10, 2010 No smoke that I can tell now. seems some oil got somewhere while I was doing some spirited and cleared up after a day or 2. The problem now is the black dust on the rear bumper that I think is the oil dripping from the BOV (thanks for the id) onto the turbo heat shield. Had a load of the intake pipes off this morning to try and remove the BOV but I think the pipes to it are the original ones and have gone solid (unless they are ment to be totally unflexable) so basicly I couldn't get the damn thing off without risking something breaking. I cleaned up as much as I could but obviously couldnt get inside the piping hopefully wiggling it arround a bit and reapplying the clips will help sort it (hey I'm an optamist) otherwise I guess I'll be lkooking for new parts just in case. scotty71 Posted July 16, 2010 Share Posted July 16, 2010 Just on the back of bazza's thread... after cleaning under the bonnet tonight I notice a bit of oil around the pipe (with the 3 red dots on) not alot just around the edge. My HKS ssqv blow off valve faces forward and the front is in the position with the red 0. As my bonnet was up a noticed like a spray of oil on the bonnet, which when closed would be above the BOV. I have checked the oil level and all seems fine. Reading up on this I take it that it could be two things?? 1. simple leak from the pipe (3 red dots in diagram)not having proper seal and pressure from the BOV is fanning it out over the underside of the bonnet when venting. 2. There is oil in the intake which is likely to be caused by knackerd turbo seals?? Car doesnt smoke and is running fine.
