James
Following my bump back at the tail end of March, I just received my Supra back yesterday evening. Had a look round it this morning and the insurance company never even bothered to open the bonnet to check what was going on in the bay (it was running fine when I took it for assessment - just cosmetic damage). Now, I need to get the bonnet off to change it but I'm having a bit of trouble. The bolts at the hinges are rounding and I can only get to them on the driver side as it is arched/warped more at that side. The main problem, however, is trying to release it at the front. It's still on the catches. The cable is completely free of the bonnet release on the inside and the slam panel has bent up at the part you push up to lift the bonnet normally so I can't really get to that either. Being a bit useless with this sort of thing, I'm not totally sure what would be best to do? I was thinking to try and get some sort of a saw to cut it up essentially to then try get to the release to get the last bits free (the bonnet is completely beyond repair anyway). Thoughts? Thanks! barneybrendan
good pair of tin snips will cut the bonnet easily.
James
Managed to get the driver's side hinge bolts off. It was more raised than the other side though which I can't get to. Argh!
nevins
Get a grinder and cut it open fella, once its cut in two you can gain access.
James
Yeah dude my mate is on his way round with one just now. Just annoyed as I have the one side off but can't get to the passenger side at all. Also, the latches are still in place and I can't get them free either
nevins
Once you have the back half off the car, you can reach in with your hand and release the catches.
James
Yeah man it's just the frustration of not having the left hand side at the back off!
James
Got the bonnet off! Managed to get the cable yanked and it released! Put the hinge bolts back on and checked it over when the bonnet was up as normal... Need a new slam panel. Also, the fan isn't working - causing it to overheat - as it's sticking against the shroud (due to slam panel pushing it back). It wasn't running properly at first (after getting jump started) which turned out to be the plug at cylinder 6. Luckily I had some NGKs (grade 7 is fine for ~BPU right?) so it's back to sweetness. Just need to get the visual aspects sorted out and I'll be a happy boy again
