Master Warning Light ON after Soldering R/H Warning Cluster..

Good morning, all.. I come to you in times of need.

I was soldering the pins on the right hand warning cluster last night, which were previously only coming on if you whacked the dash. Firstly, I noticed I only had 3 bulbs; low oil level, low oil pressure and the check engine light. I was missing a bulb for the ABS. I'm quite handly when it comes to soldering, so got the job done quickly. I just done all the pins for the sake of it, and after testing the light cluster, it was working fine.

This morning however, the master warning light won't go off when the handbrake is down. I've not had this issue before. Could it have something to do with a missing bulb in the right hand warning cluster, not completing the circuit?

I've done a search and can't seem to find anything specific, other than the main triangle warning light can also refer to low brake fluid and speedo convertor failure? Both of which, I know to be alright.. Also, I read it may have something to do with starting the car with the odometer disconnected?

Anyone else had something similar come about? Hope to get this sorted ASAP.

Cheers in advance for any advice.

Rgds,

Keith.

Been outside fault finding and just a quick one to note..

Used a paperclip to see if any fault codes have been stored; el zilcho. Checked the brake fluid sensor and level, all seems fine. Boot and all doors are closed properly and handbrake is OK too. All warning lights appear to be fine, barring the ABS, as it doesn't have a bulb fitted.. Could this simply be the issue, or is it to do with starting the car with the odometer removed?

I'm pleased but surprised it hasn't came up with a fault. Back to the drawing board I guess.. Hope one of you technical guru's out there can work your magic.

Rgds,

Keith.

Same thing happened to me when I re-soldered the right hand cluster. I also have no ABS light but not sure if that's the bulb or not, didn't worry too much about it.

However, when I reconnected the cluster I'd not disconnected the battery and managed to short a couple of the pins, blowing one of the 10A (i think) fuses. This triggered the master alarm indicator until I replaced the fuse. Have you checked all your fuses?

Pretty good point, Neo. Perhaps the ECU believes the stock alarm is still present and has been tampered with. I'll start looking at fuses later on and hope for the best. It's another route to go down anyway.

Well I checked the fuses upon getting home from work. They're all fine, even checked those under the bonnet, just to make sure.

I removed the warning light cluster again and fitted one of the good bulbs into the ABS switch, reconnected the rest to find the ABS light staying on, even when the engine is started. I was going to do another diagnostic with this one in place, but then the heavens opened. If the ABS picks up an error, would this flash up as a problem?

It's really beginning to annoy me now. Think I'll get onto Keron and see if he's got any spare clusters lying about, just in case i've damaged the board somehow. The solder itself is all tidy, but theres some gloss kind of marks on the board where the heat has got to it.

Really hope to get this sorted. Any advice will be much appreciated..

Rgds,

Keith.
