dwayne
had game reading issues on a ps2 once which turned out to be the laser arm but its probably best to take into the game or gamestation and get them to take a look before opening up yourself. do you still have the blue and green lights on the front? Thorin
The drive is connected via a very thin and flimsy ribbon type cable, these can work loose (lose?) or become dodgy. Could just be that rather than the laser/drive itself failed.
pedrosixfour
Maybe Tiger stuck something in a particular port he wasn't meant to while your back was turned and now the console isn't speaking to either of you.
Scott
You will most likely need to replace the laser and deck. Think you can get both for around £30 now. It will be bye bye warranty though.

All the lights are working fine and so is the PS3 apart from playing any games or DVD's

add heywood
I got the dreaded yellow light last week, £40 to fix but they said it wouldn't last. Only thing is I like the backward compatability of my ps3, and the sd ports at the front that the new ones don't have.

TonytotheB
Haha I was kidding mate. I just hate consoles. I don't know why The PS3 probably knew it was past the warranty date and packed in, forcing you to buy another one? I wouldn't put that past Sony
pedrosixfour
Is the console making any strange clicking or scratching noises. My PS2 refused to cooperate with me at one point, turned out to be the worm gear that moves the laser had seized up in a particular way. I cant really remember the details of it now but if you do decide to crack 'er open make sure all the mechanical are doing what they should. Scott
PC gamers are queers. Consoles rock all. That is a common misconception. They are in fact so geeky that they haven't had time to get the shrink wrap off it, hence why folks think they are gay

It makes no sound apart from a quitet spinning sound, not the sound you would get if you put a game in a dvd drive, just a VERY quiet humming sound. Will have to wait until it's finished formating then I'll open it up.
