j1mb0b1
Hi folks, A friend of mine is selling his low cost kitcar in the next few months. It has a 2.0 ford Zetec engine (135bhp) currently. but he is removing this to put into his new kitcar, So I will be buying the car with no engine at a lovley price of £600 . I want the car for the nurburgring trip next year as I no longer have my supra, So my plans are. 1. Another 2.0 zetec (135BHP) 2. Redtop 2.0 (150BHP) 3. 1JZ TT (250BHP) What's peoples thoughts on this ? Is it worth a go or would there be to much power ?.
JustGav
Too heavy I would have thought....
Swampy442
1JZ would be my choice, only because its something I really want to do. Im not sure how much they weigh?
Thorin
Too big, too heavy. Stick with the Zetec or Vaux red top.
j_jza80
Too heavy I would have thought.... Honda F20C and transmission from a Honda S2000 would probably be good enough, and return you some decent MPG too. Otherwise: - 1.6 MX5 lump with a turbo (will fit the later 6 speed boxes too) - Vauxhall Omega, various RWD gearboxes and engines, including a derv if you fancy something different and mega mpg The donor parts are very common, and very cheap too. Swampy442
Im sure MPG isnt a consideration when building a kit car lol
colsoop
Does it have to be a car engine ?
j1mb0b1
Too heavy I would have thought.... Too big, too heavy. Stick with the Zetec or Vaux red top. That's what I thought someone would say Does it have to be a car engine ? Yes because bike powered kitcars dont have much on the top end, There good for upto 100mph but run out of puff. Also a lot more cost involved..
jevansio
Sod the weight, push some boundaries, 3.4l 2JZ with 76mm turbo (oh and velcro gloves for the steering wheel )

add heywood
Old Ford CVH turbo could get you 200 bhp and they don't weigh much and go cheap now, or cossie YB for serious fun.
Ian W
I doubt I'd be wanting to do much over a ton in a kit car
