Car shaking randomly.

Ok.. been worried a little.

My N/A -94 Supra has started to shake randomly.

Someday it does go smooth and somedays shakes very violently. It can be felt from very low speed like +10mph up all the way to higher speeds. When reaching over 60mph the shaking seems to go away a bit... (???)

Steering wheel itself doesnt shake at all. I can feel the shake "up on my ass" and from the foots (pedals are not shaking).

It doesn`t make any difference if I accelerate, keep it steady, brake or press clutch down.

- Wheels have been balanced month ago.

- Alignment, camber etc. have been adjusted month ago.

- Rear shocks been replaced with new ones

- Wheels do have correct sized spigot rings

Any ideas anyone?

Really tricky to diagnose so best to start crossing the really silly stuff off the list of possibles then go from there.

When did it start doing this ?

Is the engine running fine ?

Does it change gear okay ?

Check all the wheels are on properly and all the nuts are tight.

Check wheelbearings

Check engine mounts

Check propshaft

I had a speed related shake problem a few years. Coincidently my office had relocated so I was commuting on a dual carriageway from front door to desk at *** leptons instead of crawling along in a grid lock. The problem disappeared when I had new tyres put on. I can only put it down to the way the tyres wore.

Come to think of it i also had a strange vibration / whobble on a 325i. It turned out to be a 12 inch slash on the inside tyre wall on one of the rear tyres. It hadnt gone all the way through but was bad enough. Worth having a look.

It just started to do it randomly.. first it was slight and now somedays it`s real bad, then it`s slight again and somedays doesn`t feel at all.

Car does run fine and gear changes are smooth. Does rev without any lags, hesitations or other faults.

Just shakes randomly and is real pain to drive somedays :(

.. and also tires are new with 500miles behind them and I have made sure the pressure is good.

... great list of parts to check. Thanks for contributing. Hope somebody has had same kind of experiences and could pinpoint the problem :/

After it has made the vibration for a while feel the back wheels and see if they are mad hot. A sticking caliper will generate a LOT of heat. Have you checked the auto box fluid level correctly, which is with the fluid warm after a run, and with the engine idling in Park on a level surface? Too much or too little fluid are very bad....

It`s a manual and I have document of recent gearboxfluid change (owned the car for 3 months now).

Will check the back wheels after next run, good tip, thanks!

Good luck with finding whats wrong and only too happy to try to help, i've never suffered anything like what your describing so im trying to think outside the box so to speak.

If you can't find anything it might pay you to get it bolt checked and get it on a ramp and go over all the suspension, subframes, driveshafts etc

I noticed weird thing today!

In morning we had little bit cold night here and I left to work and found out the shaking was literally pretty bad.

When I left from work in the middle of day we had superhot day +30celcius and car went smooth with no shaking for 15miles.

Then later in the evening when the temperature went low I took a short trip and it was shaking from the first mile for whole drive.

Can temperature be the effect or was that just coinsidence?

Have you checked the tyres for bulges and swelling, my brother had a nearly new tyre which the tread start to come off after about a month, pirelli i think. Maybe it would make the shake worse when cold and rubber not soft like it is when it warms up!
