pistonbroke
Took the supra out tonight for a little run, and noticed a patch of oil in my garage. I initially put it down to a mark left after a filter change, (it's impossible to not make a mess when doing it ) Yet curiosity got the better of me when I got to the pub and I had a gander underneath, sure enough, I saw a drop of oil fall from the passenger side of the sump...... I lifted the bonnet, and half the pub came out to have a butchers at a proper engine , and one guy was nice enough to lend me his pocket LED torch. I looked from the top and everything looked bone dry. I checked the filter and I couldn't feel any oil underneath it, it was also done up tight enough for me to be unable to move it at all from the top (the engine was also hotter than the sun which made it a little more difficult ). From the top, I could see down to the bottom of the block towards the rear, and there is no sign of oil anywhere. Pipes, wires and other bits prevented me from seeing any other area clearly. What I'm thinking now, is it's either the sump, or the upper sump bit. Are these known to fail like this all of a sudden, I've seen supras with a mist like oil leak from them, but never this bad. I know my upper sump was leaking as in the mist type about a month ago, but to suddenly start leaking this bad seems unlikely to me. The other thing (I'm hoping it is) is the oil pressure switch, this is apparently in the block, on the passenger side behind the air con compressor, which would probably make oil drip from where I can see it now. Both cam cover seals were replaced about 2 months ago, so I know it's not them, does anyone else have any suggestions on where I should start looking tomorrow? Oh, and I need you all to cross your fingers for me that this is a cheap fix, otherwise I'll be selling my suprapod run ticket
TrickTT
Oil pressure switch is most likely. They leak from the switch body and drip onto the side of the sump. Unbolt the air-con compressor from the block and move it out of the way (no need to remove the pipes) and its an easy fix.
pistonbroke
Well, its not the switch. it's dry as a bone up there. I'm uploading a video for the techies on here to help diagnose. I'll post in the tech section when done. As far as I can see, it's one of two things, FMS, or turbo feed pipe.
supspower
Could it be the front crank oil seal? Check under your crank pulley for any leaks try wipe your finger under there and see if there is any oil coming from the pulley. Common seals to go after a while. Chris Wilson
Re-tighten the cam covers, with new gaskets they slacken off and need re doing.
