scorling
I have an old 3G and a 3GS iphone. Tried to downlod the new os on Friday, the 3GS took ten minutes and works perfectly. The 3G took an hour, came up with a download error and locked up. An hour spent getting through on O2 helpline was wasted, they gave me the Apple helpline number. An hour getting through to them was really helpful. They confirmed the error message meant that the phone could not be restored. They explained that as the phone was out of warranty the only solution they could offer was that I drive 50 miles to the nearest iphone centre, with a cheque for £130 and they would try and fix it (not fix it, try and fix it). Alternately I may like to upgrade! They claim that even though I was trying to download their new operating system it is my problem that the phone is out of warranty. Rubbish service but I cannot find anyone to shout at yet. Any one had any problems "upgrading" to os4?

johnny g
Throw the phone into DFU mode (google it). Then load up iTunes, restore to iOS4. My iPhone 3G locked up the other day doing mine when I was playing around, so this worked nicely.
SupraGirlie
I know exactly how you feel, I have a 3G, mine took about 6 hours to download with error messages all the way through, it lost my music, blurred my pictures, deleted my messages and lost my aps (which took a further hour to get back on) Even though I backed it up first. Then I couldn't receive calls after the Software was on so then I spent an hour on hold to o2 which turned out to be a 5 second call telling me to call Apple.... Anyway I bought a new Iphone 4 and I'm selling the old one!
VIL
In short for those people who have not upgraded but are thinking about it DONT DO IT !!!!! My iphone has not been right since the upgrade and it now burns up the battery 3 times faster than it did before. I have tried optimising all settings etc and its still massively power hungry. The new features simply are not worth the hassle....stay on the old version and save yourselves the headache!!!!
Blackie
On the Orange website it clearly says not to upgrade the 3G but ONLY 3GS. Dont O2 warn you about this? Whats the differences with the new OS?
grahamc
Dont even bother trying to take a 3G iPhone to OS4... I did mine and my missus and now both phones are slow as H3LL!!!! Do a google search and see how many are complaining!!! Very tempted to downgrade....
T2 MSW
If u turn off the fraud warning in the options for safari that will sort out the battery drain issue
Ian W
Certainly won't be 'upgrading' my 3G
AlexJames
I got a 3gs and have upgraded to os4, and apart from the background pictures and background working, I'm not that impressed with it...
bromy
Upgraded the software on my 3gs last week, the only issue I had was that the piccies in one of my albums (not camera roll) went really fuzzy, otherwise all is ok
neo2810
Chaps... My 3GS and my wifes 3G are both running perfectly on iOS4. If you leave all the apps open under multitasking panel then your battery WILL run down faster. When closing an app, it stay open in the multi dock and drain a little power. Leave 15 apps open and you're gonna suck yourself dry in no time. You need to manually close down the apps from the multitasking panel to close the properly.
