navtrd
Hi i removed the auto gear knob for retrim a while back and also removed the over drive button, it seemed fine before but today my car wont go in park or reverse and i cant remove my key. Anybody know what the problem is? thanks
Lukeyboy2k
Check the stop light (brake light) fuse in the driver's footwell. I had similar issues once and this was the cause.

Guest ugp
untill then, if your really stuck, use the little red button to move the lever.
Gambit
I'd hazard a guess and say that the big button on the auto stick isn't working. You can D, N, 2 and L without that and those are what you have. To check Lukeboy's idea though put your foot on the brake pedal with the engine off and key at stage 2, if it's working you can hear the relay click as you push the brake down. Swampy442
You cant get L if the big button isnt working, you can only get N,D and 2.

navtrd
luckily managed to get the key out however park and reverse are not working, could it be the over drive button as i removed the end connection inorder to get the gear knob off? thanks for the help so far guys
Swampy442
The overdrive button has nothing to do wth P or R, P is locked/unlocked by a solenoid operated by the brake pedal. If you can select P when pushing the red button then the problem lies in power to that solenoid. As for R thats purely the big button on the gearstick Edited June 30, 2010 by Swampy442 (see edit history)
navtrd
Iv tried it however i can not select the park or reverse what so ever, the rest are easily selected.
Gambit
Can you here the click when you step on the brake pedal?
Swampy442
Did you hold the red button and select P? Did you check the fuses as per advice in post 2?
navtrd
The fuses seem to be fine, iv held the red button down and still cant get it to go into park or reverse, it does make the clicking sound on the brake pedals the only option is to drive up to a mechanic. Swampy442
Did you pull the collar up that covers the base of the gearstick?
navtrd
Yes its already removed as most panels were taken out gone in for a retrim i can see the leaver getting selected into gears but wont nudge down enough to go into reverse or park, i dont want to force it too much as it may snap. Edited July 1, 2010 by navtrd mistake (see edit history)
